Have found a marriage for a James Richards in 1765. (Possibly a first marriage?). From Limpley Stoke marriage Pr's.

14 April 1765. James Richards. Of this parish. Banns. Susannah Bull. Parish of Limpley Stoke.

No marriage listed for a James & Betty in 1789 in Limpley Stoke.

There seems to be a ten year gap between 1736 & 1746 for Limpley Stoke registers.

I think you will find,  Limpley Stoke is in Wiltshire.

I have a transcription of the Limpley Stoke Baptisms and Burials and set out under some records that may be of interest.

Baptisms
1777 Mar 2 William s/o James & Susanna RICHARDS
1779 Jul 4 Susanna d/o James & Susanna RICHARDS
1782 Dec 1 Sarah d/o James & Susanna RICHARDS

1790 Jan 3 Susanna d/o James & Betty RICHARDS
1791Apr 3 Henry s/o James & Betty RICHARDS

There are no other baptisms recorded in Limpley Stoke for either couple.

Burials
1819 Apr 29 Susanna RICHARDS Age 78
1823 Nov 5 James RICHARDS Age 82

Further Baptisms
1740 Nov 23 Susanah d/o John & Sarah BULL
1742 Aug 15 James s/o Henry & Elizabeth RICHARDS

On the assumption that the two burials fit the two earlier baptisms it would appear that the James Richards that married Susannah Bull did not become a widower and them marry Betty  .  But, of course, this could be disproved when and if the marriage of James Richards to Betty  is found.

I am descended from William Richards 1791- & Elizabeth 1808- lived at 12 Lower Stoke Limpley Stoke (1841 census) greatx3 grandfather.
My great great grandfather was William Henry Richards 1832-1908 was the brother of James Richards 1842-

Those Deverells spelled their name about 8 different ways.

William Richards born 1791 Limpley Stoke, (son of Henry Richards and Mary) ?
married 1830 to Elizabeth Shepperd born 1808 Ireland.
Had 6 children:- William Henry b 1832, John b 1835, Ellen b 1839, James b 1841, George b 1845,
Frank b 1848.

The family were still living in Limpley Stoke in 1861(census)
