Marriage of Sarah Jane BOUSFIELD in NEWARK
« on: Tuesday 12 August 08 16:17 BST (UK) »
I found a marriage record for Sarah Jane Bousfield marrying in 3rd Quarter of 1842 in Newark.
Can anyone confirm if:
a) This is the Sarah Jane Bousfield dau of Edward Little and Ann Langley born in 1821 in Newark
b) The name of her spouse & date of wedding
Thank you

You'll need to purchase the cert for parental and age info (plus witnesses/ dates)

You can however come up with a shortlist of spouses from Freebmd (click on the page number for sarah jane) .

Sunflower - you gave the marriage date as 08 /09/42 - is that UK or US style dating? ie is it 8 September or 9 August?

Is this the William Gambee Strong who was born and died in Canada, son of John Bass Strong (who was born in Notts) and Elizabeth Gambee?

I've just been looking at Elizabeth's father Luke, who was from Felmersham, Beds

Thank you for your post.
Yes, it is that William Gambee Strong born 21 June 1819 in Sackville, New Brunswick, Canada.  He became the Hon William Gambee Strong and was buried in Prince Edward Island, Canada.  I don't have his date of death though - do you?
He married Sarah Jane Bousfield on 8 September 1842 in Newark, Nottinghamshire, UK.
As far as I know they had five children:
Frederick William born 14 October in Newark
Louisa born 1849
Charles Edward born 2 January 1852
Mary Allison born 30 November 1860
Henry Pope born 1862 died 25 February 1926 aged 63

If you have any further information about any of them I'd be very interested.
Many Thanks

I'm afraid I know nothing about the Canadian end, but I discovered the following last night, and thought it might be useful to Canadian Gambee researchers:

Samuel Whitbread was a local magistrate in Bedfordshire, England, and kept copious notes of cases which came before him, and of approaches made to him. The notebooks have been transcribed and are contained in a book published by Bedfordshire Historical Record Society in 1971, edited by Alan F Cirket.

An entry on Monday Oct 3rd, 1814 reads as follows "Luke Gambee, born at Felmersham, Beds, been abroad 40 years as millwright, lived in Canada for 37 years; returned last summer; wants employment. Have no means of employing him."

Luke Gambee or Gamby was William Gambee Strong's grandfather. He was baptised at Felmersham, Bedfordshire on 22 Jan 1744, the son of Thomas and Frances Gamby. It must be the same Luke Gambee. His first marriage was to Hannah Brandon on 1 Aug 1868 at Old Church, St Pancras, London. See thread at http://genforum.genealogy.com/gambee/messages/7.html
