John Harold SLACK - looking for WWI memorial
« on: Sunday 02 November 14 12:55 GMT (UK) »
Cpl John Harold SLACK of 12th Bn Sherwood Foresters attached to 11th Bn Leicestershire Regiment died in 1916 age 24.  He was born in Cresswell but was living in Mansfield at the time of the First World War. I am trying to find out if he is listed in any war memorial in the Mansfield area.

Thank you for your reply  :)

It looks as though he is only listed on the Nottinghamshire Virtual Memorial  :(

Searching the internet shows that there are several memorials in churches or erected by employers but I haven't found one that includes John, who was a miner.

It seems such a shame that there doesn't appear to be a town memorial.

Yes it does seem a shame. But maybe he is remembered somewhere in Notts, just not recorded.

Have you seen this?

Yes, I seen that.  It's similar to what's on the CWGC site.
