Hunt family/Finmere
« on: Thursday 09 March 06 13:35 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone have any information on a family by the name of Hunt who may have had links at one time with Finmere, Oxon? I have good reason to believe that my great-grandmother was a Harriet Hunt and that her father may have been called William. A Harriet appears, aged 44 and under her married name of Thomas, on the 1901 census, living near Kington, Herefordshire, when her place of birth is given as Finmere. In the 1891 census, I appear to have located the same person, together with my great-grandfather, Theophilus Thomas, living in the village of Llanfihangel Rhydithion in Radnorshire. Also there at that time was a William Hunt, widower, aged 65. I believe that the marriage of my great-grandparents may have taken place in the June quarter of 1880.
Thomas (Radnor & Carmarthen), Evans (Radnor, Carmarthen & Monmouth), Jones (Radnor & Brecon), Jenkins (Radnor), Arthur (Radnor), Griffiths (Glamorgan), Richards (Glamorgan), Phelps (Monmouth), Probert (Brecon), Davies (Brecon), Holmes (Monmouth), Hunt (Oxon), Davis (Oxon & Bucks), Ridgeway (Oxon), Church (Bucks), Cordani (Italy).

Hi Penny. It's been at least a few years since I've looked at my Hunt papers, but we may well have a connection. I'm not sure how much additional information I have, other than what's included in this strand, but I'll have a look as soon as I can; life's a bit hectic at the moment!

I am trying to get some information about the Hunt family of Finmere. My GGGrandmother was Elizabeth Hunt, daughter of William Hunt and Charlotte Davis.  She had four siblings, Emmanuel, Harriet, Thomas William, and Dinah.  Elizabeth married Peter Evans.  Their daughter, Alice Evans, was my GGrandmother and she immigrated to the US with her older sister when she was 16.  We don't have much information about the family beyond my GGrandmother and would love to know more about Elizabeth's siblings.
