William McAdam and Jane Pickard
« on: Thursday 03 July 14 08:21 BST (UK) »
William was born 1780 in the USA the second child of John Loudon McAdam
He married Jane Pickard in 1799 in her home Parish of St Pauls Shadwell in the East End of London.
William died 1836 and is buried in Colmonell Ayrshire but his stone does not mention Jane. We believe she died in 1832 though we have also seen 1852, which might be a transcription error.
William and Jane very likely had a home in England very likely Bristol or Bath in the early 1800's.

Does anyone know anything about the Pickard family? Are there any living descendants? Where was Jane buried etc?
Thanks in anticipation :)

Oh is that not allowed?
It seemed relevant to both areas... I assumed that people with knowledge of London might not follow the Scottish posts and VV? William was from Scotland but Jane from London.

If there is a link posted (as I have done) then people can check the other thread.
Otherwise they will have no knowledge there is one, and there is the risk that two people each can be spending a lot of their time looking for exactly the same things, oblivious to each other.

HI,
I can only see one birth for a William McAdam and a Jane Pickard - a son Archibald Crawford McAdam born 1812 Ayr. I take it that this is the William that dies in Ayrshire. Have you followed through on Archibald?

Hi there jennywren001
William and Jane had 7 children that we knew about. My cousin found Archibald just last year.
He does not show up in any of the census records so we assume that he died young. With b 1812 he would have been the last of 4 sons and probably the last child.
I see that you also have Fullerton and in particular Cochrane in your research surnames.
Is this by any chance the Cochrane's of Waterside and the Earls of Dundonald?

no - my family are just ordinary folk...like most they lived, worked and died close to where they were born - never left Scotland and in many cases the county of their birth if not the parish.
The Cochrane name is a fluke. Given the absence of so many parish records I was extremely lucky to find a birth record for Alexander Cochrane which explained the circumstances of his birth. I don't think I would have solved that puzzle if it was not for the help I had on this site.
