Leeds- Thomas Reynard
« on: Wednesday 06 August 14 17:46 BST (UK) »
I'm having real trouble finding anything out about my grandfather's paternal line. If any one can help.

I have a Thomas Reynard  (1887?- 1936?) married to a Sarah Ann Oak(e)s (1893-1975) who were living in north Leeds. I think his father is another Thomas Reynard born in 1849 and married to a Martha Ann Hall born 1855.

If anyone can help me with this you would be making my day! I have a few other scraps of information if they will be of any help.

Thanks.
Reynard, Lee, Oak(e)s, Gledhill

Hi and a warm welcome to Rootschat.

You seem uncertain about this person. Best to go one step at a time, confirming each step as you go, to make sure you dont waste a lot of time (and possibly money) following the wrong trail, or just ending up with an incorrect tree.

Have you got your Dad (or Mum's whichever it is)'s birth cert confirming the parents to be Thomas Reynard and Sarah Ann nee Oakes?  Or, when you are certain this couple are the right ones, have you found their marriage and got their marriage cert - to confirm the name and occupation of Thomas's dad?  HAve you found Thomas (bn 1887) on the 1901/1911 censuses? Have you found his birth on Freebmd - I guess not as you have question mark beside it.
Go one step at a time from what you know for absolute definite.

Hi and thank you.

Yep, I'm completely sure up to this point. I have extensively researched my entire family history apart from this one line which is causing me all sorts of problems. All records just seem to have vanished for my great grandfather! He died when my grandfather was young.
Also, the question marks are there because I've found a few different records with different birth and death dates but for the same person.

When did Thomas Reynard and Sarah Oakes marry?
And the other Thomas and MArtha HAll marry?

On 1891, is it the family living in Hurst Lancashire? All bn in Leeds?

Hi,
There is a marriage 1901 Thomas Harris same page Martha Crampton  which would fit with a 1911 entry.  Is Martha Reynard and family , the family living in Wakefield on the 1901 census, and does she have a daughter Louie born 1893? If so this also fits with the 1911.
Looking on Freebmd there is a marriage1874, same page Martha Ann Hall and Joseph Crampton.
That might account for Martha Ann Hall , but obviously no Reynard surname.
There is a birth registration for a Thomas Reynard in Ashton under Lyne 1887.
Sorry not much help really

Cathy :)
The family in 1901 and the family in 1891 found by lizdb appear to be the same, I m a bit confused now :)

hi
Have found a marriage certificate online for Thomas Reynard, father Thomas Reynard deceased, and Agnes Birkenshaw 1910. one of the witnesses is Louie Reynard.
Perhaps this family is not your Thomas' family?
Sorry I m not explaining what I ve found very well, it is confusing.

I  can't see  a  marriage of a Reynard Raynard/ Oaks (oakes)  at all   Augusta Reynard   appears to  die   in 1924,    maybe  Thomas  had a  liason with  a  Sarah  Oakes ,  but  never  married  her   ?

Free BMD   has  4   Reynard  births  mmn Oakes  all in Leeds  area  and  between  1925 and 1935,  which  would fit  with what  Hannah Laura  was saying about  Thomas  dying when  her grandfather was young
