Hi Mags,

Thanks for looking these up for me. Unfortunately they're not "my" White family but may have been related to us as all the names are similar! I have further discovered Robert died in East Fenton and Jessie (Fraser) White d  in Seton. Could Jessie may have been buried as "Janet"? Robert's father, John, d 25/8/1872 in Whittingham.

For interest. have you ever been to Tranent graveyard? A lot of old graves have poorly defined names.

Hello Deb,

Looked up Whittinghame. Nothing for John died 1872. Quite a number for 18th century.

There are also three graves next to each other for early 20th and I've listed below:

John White died Whittinghame  5/03/1905  aged 78, wife Jane Brownhill  1/05/1905 aged 80
David White died Whittinghame  1/06/1929, wife Margaret McIver, died 13/01/1928 in 68th year

Christopher White died Whittinghame Home Farm 27/07/1909, 84, wife Janet Patterson 14/07/1900, 73  first daughter Catherine Braid died 27/04/1915, 58, Youngest daughter Janet Smith of Edinburgh 12/04/1918, 48, Youngest son William Archibald 28/05/1930, 68

Elizabeth Dickson 23/11/1979, 89, husband William White

Yes I have been to Tranent Cemetery. My grandparents, great grandparents and lots of great uncles and great aunts are there. It is beautifully kept with a lovely view over the Firth of Forth. Before the opening of that cemetery, folks were buried in the Kirkyard around the Old Parish Kirk. The stones there are old and some are unreadable. Remember though, some folks couldn't afford stones. None of my older ancestors have stones(or readable ones anyway) though I know they are buried in the kirkyard.

Good morning Mags.

Unfortunately none ring a bell. It is probable that there aren't any headstones I fear. Would you be able to look up 2 more for me please--in Tranent.

David Howie d 13/11/1894 aged58
Janet (Williamson Walker) Howie d 5/3/14 aged 75.

Many thanks.
