MI in Brecon Cathedral Graveyard for Richard Smith 1839

Hi

I visited Brecon Cathedral this week and happened to notice a gravestone in Churchyard which I read as "In memory of Richard Smith of the parish of Bridport who died 19th October 1839 aged 61. I assumed this was Bridport Dorset but I found a burial record for him in the registers here - his abode is given as Old Port Inferior.

He seems to have married in the same church in 1815, so I'm wondering if i got the inscription wrong.

Any help would be most appreciated

Hi Old Port Inferior and Old Port Superior are old names of wards of Brecon as is Black Boy in the area of the Cathedral. From looking at the censuses of my family they seemed to have changed in about 1861 to St Johns for the cathedral area.

Thanks for info about where Old Port Superior and Inferior were in Brecon.

I take it that they weren't separate parishes.

I wondered if you know if the MIs for The Cathedral have been recorded?

hi  again, they seem to have been the in area of Brecon around  the Cathedral and Castle (now a hotel) .
Powys archives maybe able to help with information on where the records MIs are kept?
