Hi Stowupland,

I'm the grandson of Daniel Ferguson, one of the original Ferguson Brothers.  Sadly I never met him as he died of pneumonia around 1914, 20 years before my birth, but I did meet lots of other family members and if I can help do please feel free to contact me privately. Perhaps Roots may assist you with this.

Best wishes, Andy Nimmo.

Good morning,

I know the shipyard well as I stay not too far away.

Sadly it was announced on the news on Friday that the company has gone into receivership.  The last shipyard on the Clyde (I think) not building MOD contracts.   :(

Much better news on Fergusons now.

It has been taken over by Jim McColl (Clyde Blowers) and will re-employ those made redundant.  Not only that but he has great plans to increase the workforce 4 fold over the next few years to meet new demands for ship building and in the renewables sector.

So not the end of a saga but new beginnings.  :)

A Robert Ferguson, Shipbuilder was at 26 Newark in Greenock per the 1915 & 20 Valuations.  St. Paul's Church Hall is shown as being next and then the Church. So at some time the numbers were changed and I suspect the house you seek is across the road from the Church hidden from view by the bushes.

No St. Brides in Greenock but there is in Cathcart, Paisley and Lochwinnoch but again no Ferguson's as any of the owners.
