WILLIS Frederick Henry (Fred H Willis)

Hello All,

I have hit a brick wall with following person

Frederick Henry Willis
born Jun 1861 Lambrook, Somerset, England, United Kingdom

I can locate him on the following UK Census Records 1881, 1891, 1901 and 1911 after this he migrated to Australia in 1912, maybe there is some one else doing research on same family (yes I know, long-shot)

I am unable to locate him in the 1871 Census, His mother was Elizabeth and believe his father was John as listed on his NSW (Australia) Death Certificate however 1881 UK Census shows no Husband perhaps died prior to or never existed ? just Elizabeth as Head of family

a) Is there anyone that might be able to assist or advise on the best way to find any information further back, ie mother's maiden name or marriage of a John Willis to Elizabeth ??

b) is there anyway to confirm that Susan E Willis marriage to Edwin Walker is right, Do UK Certs list Parents of Parties in Marriage ? I have seen a few family trees on other sites but they are questionable without checking

Marriage certificates from England & Wales only show father's names.
Scottish certificates are different!

This looks like his birth registration?

The birth certificate will show mother's name, and usually father's name.
It will cost £9.25 from GRO.

There is a possible marriage on FreeBMD in June Qtr 1855 in Wincanton Reg District Vol 5c Page 895 which covers Kington Magna.  Of the 4 people listed 2 are Elizabeth Ware and John Willis

it maybe them in 1891 , but still he is clearly missing in 1881 and his wife Elizabeth is listed as the Head of family, I would have thought they would only do that if the Husband "John" had died

Yes I saw the marriage in June Qtr 1855 in Wincanton WARE / WILLIS but was not sure if it fitted in ie location wise.

are

Pinn Somerset and Yarlington Somerset, one in the same place?

Kington Magna Dorset and Hargate Magna Dorset, one in the same place? so what would Kingw, Dorset, England, actually be?

I was not aware that UK marriage certificates have only father's name, so I assume mother and father are on Scottish ones!

I think the birth June qtr 1861 Langport, is most likely the correct one naturally if it falls under same district Lambrook Somerset

No, no, no!

Not UK certificates - there's no such thing!
English & Welsh certificates only have father's name

sorry should have said "English" Certs, I am so used to saying UK Certificates !! I will amend my errant ways  .

I apologise if I have caused offense to Welsh, English, Scots and Northern Ireland members by using UK in generic form. Not my intention to do so  Big Sorry to all
