Not sure about all this but I think that this is proof that there's been a mix up between the two George Hendersons. Geoff maybe has already looked and found  but I'm putting this up for info.

Mary J, w, 70, b. Bassingtham

Dorothy, grdd, 5, b. S Africa, port Elizabeth

Where did the marriage take place?

The 1901 and 1911 censuses that you refer to were not them.

I see that Dorothy Kate is showing up with these parents on an online tree - no source info though.

Julia's (b. 26 july 1866, Poplar)  parents are given as Henry W Parkinson and Jane Amelia Younger. She is with them in Poplar 1871-1891

This might be of some use - nearly 13 years ago but ~

The person does seem to have letters from George to Dorothy in 1909.

As was originally stated, GWH died in 1911 in Lincoln ... he was buried there on 18th Dec.  The burial record gives his abode as Grimsby, which is the place that Dorothy was a servant in the 1911 census. :)

Please forgive my little outburst yesterday.  :-[

The likelihood of two George HENDERSONs from Lincs both marrying women called Julia around the same time, one of them disappearing overseas for a time was not a possibillity I had considered. :(

If I can jump in here!!

You might expect by my username that I know a fair bit about Notts and have some useful CDs.  If you still want to know about the Nottingham marriage in 1889 of George Henderson and Julia Kirton , it was at Nottingham St Saviour's Church on 14/10/1889.
That in itself doesn't tell you much, but if you can hang on for about 3 weeks, I expect to be visiting the Nottingham archives when I can look up the entry in the parish fiches and get all the details.  Let me know if you still want the info please.

NC.
