Title: Barker Brothers, Longton
Post by: Elliebob on Thursday 15 March 07 10:03 GMT (UK)
I have been trying for some time to find the origins of the company, Barker Brothers of Longton.  I can't see anywhere on the web who the founding brothers were.

Before I write to the museums in Stoke does any Rootschatter have any info please or know of any site I may not yet have found?

My g-grandmother was a Barker and her 3 uncles in the 1901 census were pottery manufacturers.  I would like to tie them into Barker Brothers but can't so far.

Best wishes
Ellen

Hi Cherryberry

I have seen that site and think it's just a coincidence that my rellies were called Barker and that they had nothing to do with Barker Bros.

However, they did come from Meir and then lived in Longton.  They were Eli, Elam and Edwin Barker.  I had just about discounted their link with the company but was talking to my uncle last night who thought that they were connected.  It might of course be one of those family myths!

Thanks for your help.

Regards
Ellen

I understand. We have a myths on my D'acry side of the family that  they were brewers  and sold the company on  the Guinness  brewery in Dublin Ireland  I have looked on their web site which say  they had brought up a lot of local brewers  and one of them was owned by a John D'arcy's   whether this is one of my rellies I don't know.
