Hi

Located Janet and her mother in 1871.  Janet was a servant and Barbara was visiting on census night...don't know if this helps you at all.

There is a John Rooney in the 1891 census who is married to a Ruth that fits your details.  They have a son Bernard.  They are in the county of Bootle which is in the Registration District of West Derby.

If you would like further info on the John above, let me know.

Regards
Cazza

Hello Cazza,
Janet Barbara was my ggrandmother who emigrated to NZ in 1879.Does it say if Barbara was a widow or not?Anything that would go to solving the mystery would be greatly appreciated.
    thankyou Annejay

Hi AnnejayThis is my first posting so sorry for butting in.
Some of the information you have seems to offer a link to my family indirectly.
My family is the Smith-Wilson family of Liverpool and I am led to believe from your postings that we may have a link, albeit tenuous to the Sullivan/jamieson link to the Rooney family. I believe my grandparents on my fathers side may have originated from Scotland just as the John Sullivan and Janet Jamieson family did.
My parents even considered emigrating to New Zealand, where I believe you might be, just like your grandmother.
If there is any link I would like to hear of it.
Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the forum.I would love it if we are linked in anyway. Here is a potted version of the family.
Robert Jamieson and Helen Telfer had two children.Walter and Janet.Janet married John Sullivan and eventually ended in Liverpool.John was a master mariner.Their children were.Helen Sullivan, known as Ellen who married Thomas Campion, ship's captain.Margaret who married John Moyle Stephens and emigrated to Australia.John Jamieson Sullivan mariner died 1848.Janet known as Jessie married Alexander Shephard who apparently drowned and married a Daniel Owens and Barbara who married John Rooney and had two children,Janet Barbara who emigrated to NZ and married my ggrandfather John Graham.Janet's brother John Sullivan Rooney I found died aged 3 years in 1863.
I have just received Barbara Sullivan Rooney's death cert and in attendence at her death was a niece Jessie Doyle, daughter of Jessie Sullivan Shephard Owens.
Hope to hear from you again
 Regards
 Anne NZ.

Hi Annejay,
Sorry, as I expected the information I had was wrong.
The double-barrel surname we have is a nuisance. making tracing relatives very difficult.
My grandfatheer used it but on his marriage certificate my great grandfather just used Wilson.
Sorry about that.
Dave
