Hello Debbie,

What denomination were your Cultra and Kennedy ancestors?

You'll have to rely on Church records as civil registration in Ireland was not introduced until 1864. Non Catholic marriages were registered from 1845 onwards. When registration for BDMS started in 1864 some people didn't bother with the registration for a few years after that date. Keep your fingers crossed that church records still exist.

Oooops, I have realised how rude of me not to have replied. My sincere apologies.
I have a lot of information at the moment as to some of this family.
The family all moved to USA sometime between 1857 and 1861 at least except for the eldest son who joined the British army and eventually married had many children and reitred happy and affluent in Wimbledon UK. I have all his details.  :)

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to this and apologies again for not responding sooner

Debbie

I am still looking for early information on Mary Cultra/Coulter/Cultragh. Just to recap she was apparently born in Killalea (sp), possibly around 1820. She married David Woods Kennedy in Newtownards on 9th november 1839. She emigrated to USA in 1858 with six of her children to be with David, her husband who had travelled out there a year previous. She died October 7th aged 53 and was buried Clay County, Illinois.

Can anyone suggest where I could find information on her exact birthplace and date and anything at all to do with her "Cultra" family, parents and siblings etc... BTW, her family would more than likely have been Church of Ireland, (in later life she and her husband were members of Scottish Church of Dissenters, her husband having Scottish ancestry. These are my husbands ancestors. :)

Many thanks

Debbie

Thank you both so much for the links, whilst I already have the two for 'find a grave' I did not know of the earlier link. Unfortunately neither get me any closer to my search for Mary's parents and early life before she married David Woods Kennedy.

Best wishes

Debbie :)

Hi Debbie
These are my relatives.  Henry Leslie Kennedy who remained in England is my GGGgrandfather.  His son, Frederick Charles was father of my grandfather Hugh Roy Kennedy.  I too am having trouble with finding information previous to David Woods Kennedy.
