Title: Childrens homes in Hackney c1860's
Post by: mickgall on Tuesday 07 March 06 13:50 GMT (UK)
Hi all

I'm trying to trace two boys
Thomas Gall b 1858,Hackney
Edward Gall b 1859,Hackney
Their parents were James and Fanny Gall. James was a policeman and married Fanny in 1857. I have them on the 1861 census living in Hackney. Fanny died in 1863. I've got James on the 1871 living in a police section house in Findsbury, but theres no sign of the two boys, nor can I find them living with any relations.
James remarried in 1872 and on the 1881 he is shown as having only one daughter .
I was wondering if anybody knew of any children's homes in Hackney around the 1860's or maybe there was some kind of police children's home?
Any help greatly appreciated
Mick
