Title: Wales/Appleton marriage, 1830 Margate
Post by: TreeDigger on Monday 18 October 04 15:03 BST (UK)
Hi Folks.  ;D

I am interested in any information about the following persons and their (grand-)parents and places of origin:

John (Foster?) Wales b. 1811, d. ?; married 28 Sept. 1830 St. John the Baptist, Margate to Mary Ann Appleton b. 1811, d. 1849 Thanet.

Children: John (1831) Edward (1833) William Brown (1834) George (1836) Eliza (1838) Emma (1840) Hannah (1842) Stephen (1843) Mary (1845) Joseph (1847)

I need to ascertain whether this is the right family for the Stephen Wales (bapt. 11 febr. 1844, St.John, Thanet; d. bef. 1901) who married Hannah Whales (b. 1848, Thanet; d. 1880, Sunbury, Staines) in 1870, and Selina Banbury in 1882, Chertsey.

I have Mary Ann's parents listed as John Appleton (1783-1833) and Ann ? (1772, Lydd) who married ca. 1805.
John's parents would be James Wales and Hannah Foster who married 1797, St. Peters.

Any help will be much appreciated!

Hi, saw your notice re the Appleton's, my ancestry also includes them.  I have come across a whole list of Appletons on the web somewhere,I will have a look for it, but you can just try typing Appleton genealogy at Google and see what come up.  I'm also related to Maxteds
through marriage.  My family name is Attwell.
My ancestry is through the Caspell/Dilnot/Appleton line

Hi, and YES!  ;o)

Also, it confirms his occupation, as a master bricklayer, which definitely now points me in the right direction.

Thanks for the effort!

With warm regards,

Litse

I have a current picture of 30 Princes Crescent plus a 1852 Map of the property.

Also, have a photo's of Wales graves at St Peter's Churchyard Broadstairs and Margate St John's (Thanet Main) Cemetery Manston Road.

Am willing to help out, no relation, just interested in Margate families.

Just thought, I have offered you Princes Crescent before. Wales may have built it.

May have built it?! Oh, now that would be cool to have!

Btw, have just started collecting data for a book about millers, of whom I have about 5 or 6 in my family. Been researching loads of mills in our area, but they're all over the country. So i'm going to write about the millers and their mills who are my ancestors. And then a book about all the reverends/preachers (going back to 1525, have about 7 of those as well) and the mayors (about 14 of them)

Maybe this will become my main income theme, who knows   ;) Might as well do something with this genealogy addic...I mean, hobby of mine  ::)

Have you contacted Ken Gray on the IOT? His father wrote a book about the Ramsgate Mills and some otehrs in the area? He's selling the book currently.

That sounds really nice, but unfortunately the mills I'm writing about are all located in Fryslân and other provinces of The Netherlands   ;)

However, I'm always interested in books about mills, so maybe I'll contact him anyways. Thanks for the thought!
