Hi there,

I am looking for information on John Neil born around 1850- 1852 in Cambusnethan, son of Arthur Neil and Janet (Smith) Neil.
He married a Mary Patterson daughter of James & Isabella Gillies Patterson on the 30th December 1872 at Shotts Iron Works, Shotts.

The only definite ones shown are post 1855:

Arthur O'Neil 10 Aug 1855 ( a good one to view the certificate - loads more info given in 1855!)
David O'Neil 28 Apr 1857
Betsy O'Neil 23 Mar 1859
Robert O'Neil 4 May 1861
William O'Neil 12 Feb 1864 (in Carluke)
Janet Neil 17 Mar 1866 (Carnwath)
William McNeil 18 Dec 1867 (Carnwath)

Other possibles include:
Margaret (1847)
Agnes (1849)
Mary (1850)
Thomas (1853)

These are from a batch which begins F and I am not sure of their reliability, especially since all the dates are preceded by "about".  I recommend that you look at the 1851 and 1861 census available at:

There are a number of submitted IGI entries for Arthur O'Neil and Janet Smith.

For Arthur, Sherlock has already provided the details.

From 1841 FreeCen, this looks like Arthur with his family:

A parent search on IGI shows one additional brother for Arthur called Robert born c.1819 in Carluke. There are also additional entries re marriages and deaths for a number of Arthur's siblings.

Hi, I need more info on close family as well. I have the death certificate of Agnes FYFE (nee NEIL), daughter of Arthur NEIL (without the 'O')  and ? SMITH. She died 18 December 1938 in Auckland, New Zealand aged 63. Born in Cambusnethan. I have entered her on Wikitree https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Neil-1035 (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Neil-1035), and would like to see her profile built up and connected to further members of her family.

She married Thomas FYFE in Cambusnethan about 1866. At Thomas's time of death in 1907 in NZ there were 10 daughters alive. Agnes must be a sister of your John Neil, Swally.

HI, Just saw your post and I am a descendant of Arthur Neil married to Agnes Johnston Elder. Arthurs sister Agnes came to N.Z. as well with her husband Fyfe and settled in the Auckland and further north area.  I  have  some information (newspaper details of them) if you would like it.  Maybe I can help with other New Zealand Neil family info as I live here.     I look forward to your reply , Zelda
