Hi
Thanks for the offer and hope you can help.
I have a few requests they all belong to the one family and I belive they all should be in New York, 1900 Census.
I have found Jos. T. Monteith in Ancestry index New York, New York(but cant read the transcript) and hope you can give me the info. on his family.
The others I am looking for are his wifes brothers:
George Williams Born approx. 1850 in England (Wife possibly Alice born England )
James Williams Born approx. 1857 in England
(Wife possibly Harriett born england)
Frederick Williams Born approx. 1861 in England
(Wife Maria born england & two or more children, Agnes b: 1879 and Charles 1880 all born England)
Walter Williams Born: approx. 1863 England (Wife Caroline born in New York)
Herbert Williams Born: approx. 1874 England.
(He possibly arrived in America in 1885/1886)
There were nine in the family total - I have located all the others including their mother in 1900 census (her notation said all children were still living) and would really appreciate some help with these if possible....... All were said to be in the building industry.....carpenters etc.
Thanks heaps :) :-

Hi markie, saw your offer on looking at the U.S census. I would be very greatful if you could look some up for me if you dont mind. My Gt Grandfather emigrated to America in 1922. His name is William Samuel Thearle born 1877 Kensington, Middlesex, London, England. I believe he was in Attlemont N.Y.He was deffinatley there in 1938.
Also his brother Joseph Richard Jeramiah Thearle ( could have used any of theses names as a first name ) born 1872 Kensington, Middlesex, London, England, and his wife Edith Mary born 1877 Stibbard, Norfolk, England and their family. I know of 1 child Frank Joseph born 1902 Fulham, London, England. They emigrated in 1922 but Joseph must have been there sooner as he was naturalized in N.Y. in 1919. They should also be in the Attlemont area . He was also there in 1938.
Could be they are all living together?
Anything you could help me with i would appreciate.
Jackie

Hi,
Thank you for your offer to look up US census. I have found an ancestor Thomas Naylor Lucas on the South Carolina census for 1880 (entry found under T N Lucas), along with his wife Sarah. (Thomas was from Charleston SC born in 1816 and met Sarah who is English when Thomas was at Cambridge University.)
Thomas was an Episcopal Minister in 1880. Thomas & Sarah appear in a partial censius I have seen for 1870 in SC - grateful for full details please for 1870. Thomas & Sarah where in NC or SC in 1861 and wonder if they appear in any census for 1860 or prior as I believe they returned to US in the late 1840s/early 1850's.
Thanks for any help you can give.

Hi Markie
Thanks for your kind offer of lookups on the US Census!
Please could you look on the US 1930 Census for
Mary J TERRY, and her husband Carl TERRY.
Mary was born on 3 Nov 1907, I think at, Fayetteville, Fayette County, West Virginia. Definitely in West Virginia though!
Not sure where Mary and her husband Carl were living in 1930, but know they were living in Beckley, West Virginia in 1929, so hopefully they will still be there! Mary died in Youngstown, Ohio in 1995, but no idea when she moved there!
Don't know any details about her husband Carl!
Thanks!
Jan B

Thomas Nolan b Ireland c 1835 head
Ellen Nolan b Ireland c 1835 wife

John Nolan b Minnesota 1869 son
This info someone kindly got me off the 1880 census and I was hoping maybe the family might be on a census for another year.

Hi. I wonder if you wouldn't mind checking the 1900 US census for Allen Kelsey, born Canada, age approx. 27 in 1900. He may have been living in Ohio but I'm not sure. Thank you.

Markie,
Thanks for your offer of the US census lookups.
Could you lookup on the 1890-91 census for Beeville, Bee County, Texas, for the following family.
William Walton Powell, his wife Sarah, and children Florence and William
-
William Powell and his family are not indexed in Bee County, Texas on the 1900 census. The 1890 census was mostly destroyed by fire.
There are numerous William, Sarah and Florence Powells in the Texas index.
Do you have their approximate ages? May be possible to track them down in another county.
Regards,
Valerie

Hi
I have reposted in the correct section
I would be most grateful for a look up of the following in the early (or any?) US census (1830/1840 etc.) if at all possible without knowing which state they emigrated to: ???
William and Mary BAILY BAILEY BAYLY BAYLEY.
Mary BAILEY nee CLOKE was born 1797 Sellindge, Kent UK and the couple emigrated to the US in 1829. I would guess that William BAILEY was also born in Kent UK as this is where the couple married.

Hello. This is my first message to Roorschat. Can you please look up Nancy Vickers who emigrated to Rhode Island from Blackburn Lancs in 1903 aged 23. She was unmarried then but had at least one daughter later
Welcome to Rootschat, Maud.
I found Nancy arriving in New York on board "Saxonia" on 28 October 1902 (from the Ellis Island site which is free,) but when clicking on the "Original Manifest" page, it displayed a totally different ship list. Have emailed the site and recorded the problem. Hopefully, it would have indicated where Nancy was headed upon arrival.
So, I searched for her under Vickers in 1910 census in Rhode Island without success. That particular census is indexed under head of household. No luck in 1920 either.
Any further details you may have regarding her married name, etc, might help find her on the census.
Sorry I couldnt help more at this time.

Valerie

Hi,
I would be really grateful if you could look up the following on the 1930 census.
I know they emigrated to the USA in 1927 (or thereabouts)but, the only problem is, is that I have no idea what the mothers name is! I know her daughter was called Rene (probably Irene) Morgan, I think she would have been about 7 or 8, and that they moved there after my great uncle, Thomas, was killed in a motor cycle accident in Eastnor, Herefordshire.
I would appreciate any help you can give me on this!
Regards,
Rebecca

My relatives, Frank and Lily Mutch emigrated to Pawtucket, Rhode Island from Bolton, Lancs about 1920 . Frank was born in 1901 and Lily a year earlier. I know they had two daughters who must have been born in the 1920s. I do not know the names of the daughters or what happened tro them. I know Frank and Lily died in the 1970s. Can you possibly do a census lookup for me?

Hi there,
Thanks for the kind offer!
I am looking for Miles William MEEHAN. He was born in 1886 in Darlington, England. I do not know when he emigrated to the USA but his wife Alice (born 1887) and children Richard (born 1908 in Darlington), Horace (born 1910 in Doncaster, England) and Kathleen (born 1912 Doncaster) arrived at Ellis Island in 1924. On the ships manifest it says they were going to join Miles Meehan and gave his address as 63 West 130th St, New York.
I have been told by other family members that they finally settled in New Jersey, but I do not know when that was or even if that's correct.
Thank you.
Wotty.

Dear Everyone (and Valerie):
I am looking for information regarding the arrival of First name: Giuseppe (or Guiseppe or Joseph), Surname: Brando ; he arrived in New York somewhere between 1877 and 1880, probably with Domenico (or Dominick) Brando (his toddler). I know that you have been looking up passenger ships from England in the New York passengers lists from 1851-1891 which also include ships and passengers from Italy.
Could somebody please be so kind to let me know if you find the arrival info of Guiseppe or Guiseppe or Joseph and last name Brando? If so I wish it is included port of departure, city of origin, date of arrival, etc. Thanks!

Dear Jennifer:
Thank you so much for your help, but as far as I know my ancestor Guiseppe/Giuseppe (or Joseph or Jose) Brando arrived and stayed in USA for a couple of years and then departed from USA around 1881. He was living in Manhattan as per the 1880 census of June /1880. I know that he arrived between 1877 and 6/1880. I knew he had a kid not 2, is there any information regarding Guiseppe or Giuseppe or Joseph or Jose Brando few years before 1881 available? If so it will be great, if not thank you so much anyway for all your help.
PS: If somebody has more info than what pedigree is showing in the 1880 census that would be great, since it doesn't mention (pedigree's file) which city they were from, and if not if somebody has a scanned image of the census page that would be great. THanks.

Hi. Thanks to those offering look ups in the US census.
I've lost a family in England and wonder whether they emigrated to the US - their nephew certainly did so (to New York in the 1830s).
Henry SEAGER/SEGER (birth date and place unknown, but probably 1770s)
his wife, Sarah (bap. 1777, Tenterden, Kent)
children, Susanna (1801- ), Henry (1802- ), John (1803- ), Sarah (1804- ), Jane (1806- ), George Lansdell (1816- ), Charles (1819- ).
The earlier children were baptised in Tenterden, Kent but the last two were baptised in Liverpool in 1820 - perhaps before a voyage? I haven't found any trace of the family after that date.
If someone could check the 1830 and 1840 census for them I'd be most grateful.

Hi Markie
This is a very generous offer!
Seeking info on any of the following, who emigrated from Yorkshire to Pennsylvania in the 1880’s and 90’s
Walter CAVILL born 1856 at Ellerton, Yorkshire, 1881 (March quarter) married Dorothy Ann [Cowburn] (born Loftus, about 1863) in Guisborough. 1881 census – Walter, occupation cabinet-maker, at 1 Downe Street, Liverton, near Loftus, with Dorothy (dressmaker), age 18. Walter & Dorothy not found in 1881 or 1891 census. 1882 Walter & Dorothy believed to have emigrated to Lackawanna, PA, USA. Children born in USA: Arthur (Feb 1885), Ernest (Feb 87) Andrew (Mar 89), George (Apr 1891), Warren (Nov 1892), Bertha (1902). Andrew had daughter Blanche born 1914 and son Quentin b 1916; the latter had 6 daughters, and this info has been supplied by two of them.
George CAVILL (father of Walter) born 1825 in Sutton-in-Holderness, now Sutton-on-Hull, Hull, Yorkshire. He is on his marriage certificate as Brion George Cavill but I have not come across the name Brion in anything else relating to him. Married Sarah Brown (born Elvington, near York, 1828) in 1850, Leeds. Family later moved to Ellerton, near York, then Loftus/Lofthouse, Cleveland, North Yorkshire. 1890 – George listed in Bulmer’s Directory for Loftus as clothier and emigration agent.
1901 census – no sign of George or Sarah in England
1901 - Sarah Cavill buried in Lackawanna, PA, USA, age 71
1909 - George Cavill buried in Lackawanna, PA, USA, age 84
Given the above, might some or all of the following children of George & Sarah have emigrated to the USA also?
Frances, born 1852 Leeds - not found after 1861 census, no death or marriage found
Arthur, 1859, Ellerton - not found after 1871 census
William, 1862, Ellerton - not found after 1891 census
Marinda, 1864, Ellerton - not found after 1881 census, no death or marriage found
Frederick, 1866, Ellerton - not found after 1881 census
I would also be interested to know of anyone first name Miranda or Miranda or variants in any Cavill households in USA, also anyone surname Brown.
[I have come across a Walter Cavill from Yorkshire who moved to Pittburgh around 1900 but I don't think he's related]
Many thanks!

Thank you so much for your speedy Cavill lookup!
They seem to check out but I will need to look at it all more closely tonight. I'm delighted to see Miranda there because my late mother's grandmother Sarah (who didn't emigrate!) used to talk about "Aunt Miranda who went to America" and we've always been intrigued about that. But now it seems odd that she put it that way given that Sarah's parents and seemingly several other siblings went to America too!
BTW, I see most of your surname interests are in Sussex. I now live in Chichester, county town of West Sussex (Shoreham is at the other end of W Sx, Rye is in East Sussex). Our county record office is in town here so if I can be of any assistance, drop me a PM. Be warned that I'm a total newcomer to all this ...
I'm also looking at surname Batty (from my father's side) in the Skipton/Ilkley area of Yorkshire, or would be if I could tear myself away from the Cavills ...

Hello.
I am looking for an Arthur Viner in the 1900 US Census, possibly in San Francisco, I would be interested in anything you can find. He was born 1862, Eltham, London.
Thank you

Ruth, I've just seen your message. I have some information on the family of Henry Seager. It is not from US census data. If you are interested please let me know.
