Title: My elusive William David Rees
Post by: reesnm on Friday 05 November 04 20:03 GMT (UK)
My Great grandfather, WILLIAM DAVID REES, was born in Aberystwyth in 1859, spent most of his life at sea and died in Portmadog in 1919.  He managed to 'miss' all census.  The only thing that I have gleaned is he was in 3 ship wrecks (a real Uncle Albert) and on one,  he managed to build a raft and survive 3 days.  My mother remembers seeing a magazine in Holyhead library with him on the cover.  If anyone can point me in a direction where I can find out more on the man, I would be forever thankful.

Sounds stupid but have you tried contacting the library ....... can your mum remember anything about the magazine? They may have  a librarian who looks after local history.  Thought It might help..
good luck

I am the granddaughter of Jane Olwen Rees who was the daughter of Margaret Ellen Humphreys who married mr Rees. I know the story of William David Rees. She told us many times that they had to chew om their boots to moisten their lips. I know that my mother in Holland and Nigel Benton who lives in Australia both have a copy of the magazine you mention. I would love to hear more about about my ancestors.
