Hi
I have an ancestor Thomas Gordon who was killed in an accident in New Zealand on 10 February 187. He had emigrated from Northern Ireland to Australia with his brother William in the 1830's. His parents were Thomas Gordon and Jane Martin and his father was a farmer.
We have fund it difficult to trace him. When he died, his death notice in New Zealand says Newry papers please copy. What I want to know is: Are these papers still available, how easy are they to access and are they likely to give us any further info.

The Commercial Telegraph which later became the Telegraph 1870s to 1960
Examiner on microfilm 1870s to 1887 and then on and off (ie not a complete run) to 1950
Reporter 1870s and still going
Standard 1870s and still going

There are several Gordon manuscript family trees in the Blackwood Family history manuscripts in the LinenHall library, Belfast. The volume references are as follows
Vol 5p97 Highlands, Vol 10p49 Saintfield, Vol 16p96 Glasgar, Vol 27T Saintfield, Vol 33 Drumaness, Vol 35T Highlands, Vol 42 Campbell, Vol 43 Centrefold, Vol 60 by P Crossle,volume Vol 87 County Down by P Crossle.
Gordon (an unnumbered?) MS in book section.
I think that author Crossle had Newry connections, so volumes 60 and 87 would be where I start from.
I suggest you ask them for photocopying estimates if both you and they think your knowledge relevant and be prepared to pay the extra for post and packing. However if the material is really relevant when you get it, I suggest a further donation to this unique library that is always needing extra funds. I think a check on Landed Gentry of Ireland would not go amiss.

If you contact me direct I can forward to you a complete Gordon Family History that was given to my late father by a descendant of the Gordon family of Sheepbridge.
At the time my father was trying to establish a link between the Gordon family and his maternal CALDWELL line.
I have since disproved any link apart from the fact that Thomas Caldwell was a tenant farmer on the Sheepbridge estate, but I do have this Family History of the Sheepbridge Gordons that may be of interest to you.

My G.G. Grandmother was Ann Maria Cleaves - one of her sisters Martha Cleaves married Walter Bellingham. I have photos of Martha Cleaves and Blanche Bellingham. The website I think that you are referring to (tribalpages) has photos plus my direct email and to access that website you will need to remember that I live in Maryborough.

I am a descendant of a Gordon Family from County Down and I wonder if we have connection.
My ancestor was James Gordon, born c. 1834 to John Gordon and Mary Burns.
Does this ring any bells? John Gordon was a labourer and moved to Lanarkshire, Scotland in the mid 1850s.

Hi, I'm from Auckland New Zealand. Great g g granddaughter of Thomas Gordon (b)1813. I have the death cert for William Gordon (b) 1815, but has basic info. Brothers married Sarah and Margaret Alderdice. I am trying to locate more info about Thomas and Jane (Martin) Gordon. I see my previous posting is confusing. First posting and really should have read it before sending. The line goes - my great great grandfather was Thomas Shannon Gordon, his eldest son (my great grandfather) was James alexander Gordon (black Jim), my grandfather was Arthur Edward Gordon, my mum was Merle Diaz. Any information you have would be greatly appreciated.

Newry Newspapers are available via 'FindMyPast' website and can be downloaded.
My Ancestor - Thomas Caldwell operated a Nursery on the Sheepbridge Estate, and I have a copy of the Gordon Family History. It was written many years ago and may be inaccurate in some places.

I am still around - I am stumped as to how to get this info to you, I can suggest that you go to my website - www.ottaway.tribalpages.com and you will get redirected to me via this site and then I may be able to forward a copy of the Gordon Family History. Don't forget that I have no connection to the family itself, but my father was in contact with a Mary Gordon who grew up at Sheepbridge and it was her that forwarded the history on to him. Try this way.
