Hi Sigmund,

Do you happen to have the marriage certificate to check her father's name?

I can't see an exact match but I can see this family for instance

St Mary, Suffolk
HO107/1042/6 29 4

Thomas Jarrold, 52, Carpenter
Elizabeth, 53
Hannah, 20
George, 20, Carpenter
Elizabeth Plain?, 1

Do you hink she's a possible?  :-\

Many thanks Tati, I do not have the actual marriage certificate, but this looks like a good line of inquiry.

there is a tree on A* (details to check) with:

William Jarrold 1786 Risby,suffolk - 1848 Thingoe = Jemima Bridge 1786 -1846

children:Amelia Jarrold 1811 – 1882 David Jarrold 1815 – 1898 Sarah Lyes 1817 – 1902 Sarah Jarrold 1817 –  Hannah Jarrold 1819 – 1840

On 1851 Census Johanna's  birthplace is given as Halston, Suffolk - this should read Harleston.

Found some random entries on the IGI:

Julia Anna bp.27/8/1826 Halston, dau. of William Jarrold
Joseph bp.7/7/1822 Halston (states Harleston on 1851 Census) son. of William Jarrold and Mary Parmenton
Jane bp./16/6/1816 Harleston, dau. of William and Mary
Jemima bp.27/6/1824         ditto

In 1851 William shown as a Gamekeeper, age 57, born Onehouse, Suffolk, wife Mary (born Harleston) transcribed as aged 68 but think this should be 58 -  they have with them a son Elijah aged 15 born Shelland.
They are living in Great Finborough, Suffolk - ref. HO107-1794-481-17.

In 1841 they are also in Great Finborough, Suffolk - ref. HO107-1035-4-5-5 - name transcribed as JARRALL

William Jarrall   45       Gamekeeper
Mary Jarrall       46
Joseph Jarrall    18      Ag. Labr.
Job Jarrall           12
Mary Anne Jarrall  9
Elijah Jarrall         6

IGI shows marriage of William Jarrold to Mary Pammerton 8/11/1813 at Onehouse, Suffolk.   Being a Suffolk lass I think the 2 odd spellings of the surname should actually read Parmenter.

So, William in 41/51 was a Gamekeeper not farmer - perhaps a farmer before that though.

Well done Annette  :D

Onehouse (one'us), Shelland and Harleston are three tiny parishes close to Stowmarket.

Jonna (Johannah) Jarrold was my great great great grandmother , born 1819 Suffolk. She married Richard Stone in 1843, Isligton. They had 5 children. I have been researching Jonna on and off for 10 years, after my wonderful Grandmother (now deceased) gave me a beautiful glass bowl that apparently was Jonna's and had been passed down through 3 generations, then to me. It is one of my most prized possessions. I have quite alot of info and some certificates. Would be happy to share it with you. What is your interest in Jonna ?? Are you related ? Looking forward to hearing from you.

My Grandmother, Florence Stone was born in1891.  Her father was Henry John Stone who was born in1849 in Lambeth ,which at that time was in Surrey, and married  Isabella Raulins (Rawlins) in August 1873 Their other children were Richard, Oliver, Evelina. and Mary Henrietta. I suspect that Henry's father was Richard Stone who was married to Johanna Jarrold. Can anyone confirm this?

Hi Valda

That was extremely helpful in confirming the information that I had. Thank you very much indeed.  What I am trying to establish, however, is whether this Henry Stone - my great grandfather - was the son of Richard Stone and Johanna Jarrold and whether he was the one who Richard Stone was said to have brought back from Australia.

Hi

Have you obtained the John Henry birth certificate?

The evidence points to John Henry/Henry John being the son of Richard Stone and his wife Caroline, the cab driver of the 1851 census in Lambeth (same occupation as on his son's marriage certificate)

John Henry/Henry John's sister Caroline's marriage details at the same church and the same address.

19th December 1865 St John the Evangelist, Lambeth
James Watmore Minor, Printer, Ann Street, Charles Watmore, Printer
Caroline Stone Minor, Waterloo Road, Richard Stone, Cab man
Both Signed
Witnesses Robert Jones and Emily Leonora Edwards

1871 census RG10 373 folio 17
15 Mount Pleasant St Andrew Holborn
James Watmore 24 Head Married Letter press printer London Middlesex
Caroline Watmore 24 Wife Married Southwark Surrey

Hi Valda

That was enormously helpful.  If my Richard Stone was married to Caroline then he was not the Richard Stone married to Johanna Jarrold.  You have saved me pursuing a false trail.

Thank you

Hi Sigmund,

It's a shame the Richard you are looking for isn't Johannah's Richard as I found the piece of pottery in the attachment on the Thames foreshore yesterday.

Best wishes,

Simon
