Hi Colliedug

I have had a look around and am none the wiser!

Have you looked for Edward's death cert? - Scottish certs should give parents' names and that would at least be a start in locating him in earlier censuses.

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

Hi Guys,
thanks for the searching. I have Edwards death cert which gives parents as
John Robson shoemaker deceased
Mary Smith Goodwin deceased
date of death 06/12/1905 11 Lower Kessock Street Inverness.

I did try to search around Gateshead on tyne for his parents because of the mention that Edward may have married there but no joy. As you can see by census and births they did travel up and down the country quite a bit. This is from my maternal side of the family and has been a bit of a rollercoast trying to find everybody as gggrandfather and gggrandmother have both been from travelling families

Thanks guys

Hi Colliedug

Here are a couple of English deaths for Mary to be going on with

Death
Mar q 1883
Mary Smith ROBSON aged 85
Thirsk 9d 328

Sep 1886
Mary Smith ROBSON aged 32 - not very likely!!, but poss a relative?
Tynemouth 10b 105

Might be worth trying to locate these in the census?

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

p.s. couldn't find the parents' marriage!

I haven't had any luck locating an Edward b c 1838 with parents John (shoemaker) and Mary in the English censuses 1841 or 1851.

Which is not to say they aren't there somewhere!

Hi Arronroots,
sorry no joy with the first Mary, saving the other just incase there is a link somewhere! I have studied the birth certs etc of this family again and some stuff just does not add up. If they were married in Gateshead on Tyne in 1865 you would think that children would be born within a couple of years , but the first child is born in 1876.Second child born 1879 and this is the date of the second marriage on 29/10/1879 in Portobello Edinburgh.I think my ancestors may have been pulling the wool over someones eyes! On the third childs birth certificate it says
Edward Robson Father
coachbuilder journeyman
domicil Gateshead on tyne
Jane Robson Mother
MS Taylor
1865 Gateshead on Tyne {no date}
This bunch have had me going round in circles for ages but no doubt I will fit all together eventually
regards

Hello...am not sure you are still interested in Mr. RObson.  He was my great grandfather, his daughter being Jane .  She married William Alexander gordon and they immigrated to Canada in 1927.  There is definitely something fishy about him.  I think Jane Taylor was Jane Williamson.  I think she may
have been married to a Taylor.  He died in 1905 and Jane died in 1916.
