Post by: ali607 on Friday 14 December 07 21:59 GMT (UK)
Hi, does anyone know in which newspapers a death would have been posted around bishop auckland? Is it still the northerhn echo and the stockton and darlington times?
Thanks
Alison

Yes.  Another possibility would have been a possible notice in the weekly paper 'The Auckland Chronicle' which I think used to be published on a Thursday.

There was also the Northern Despatch ( which changed name to the Evening Despatch),
although an evening 'paper it concentrated on Darlington and South Durham.

The NEWSPLAN (Northern Region) survey has identified the local newspapers for the whole of the region that includes Bishop Auckland, their dates of publication and locations of current holdings. Unfortunately is is a (very large)text file, and not a database, but it is searchable by key word.

www.nemlac.co.uk/nemlac/resources/NEWSPLAN%20North.pdf (http://www.nemlac.co.uk/nemlac/resources/NEWSPLAN%20North.pdf)

You could also search online catalogue of the British Library Newspapers, more detail about this at:

Good luck
