I'm researching the BLIGHT family in Sth Australia and have drawn a blank with the following member, daughter of John & Helena BLIGHT, nee Reid. I only have death records up to 1915.
BLIGHT Grace Mary Ann born 26.6.1875 Pt Pirie - can't find any further info on her in Sth Aust.
Grace had a brother:-
BLIGHT John Henry William born 29.4.1881 Kanyaka. He married in 1904 Mary Elizabeth NEYLAN, daughter of Patrick. I've found 1 child to them, Manfred Laurence James b.1905 Unley and his marriage also.
I haven't located Mary Elizabeth NEYLAN's birth or death details.
Nor do I have the death details of John Henry William BLIGHT b. 1881.
Appreciate someone else's input into these family dead ends - thanks, Sashar
-
Sashar, I can't see Grace Mary Ann Blight's marriage to 1937 or death to 1972 in South Australia, I'm afraid. :(

Cando - I think you've got the right bloke here, thankyou. They were around the Wirrabara/Pt Pirie area-
This John BLIGHT - b. c1880
BLIGHT John William
Date 27 Mar 1951
71 years
Status W
Residence Wirrabara
Death Place Port Pirie
District Code: Pir H 766/1608
Ozybob - that is the right family. I even have an Elizabeth Jane BLIGHT b.c.1874 that I think belongs with this family as their 1st child. Elizabeth married and had 8 children, some of them with names from the Reid side of the family i.e. Adam, Helena, so I'm pretty sure she belongs with this lot even though I can't find her birth either.
Can a death be found for Mary Elizabeth BLIGHT, nee Neylan?. If that is her husband John William Blight's death in 1951 and he was a Widower, then she must have died before then.
Shame about the Grace M BLIGHT in WA - looked good for a while!
Thankyou all for your help - regards, Sashar
-
Sashar, I wonder if this is the death of Mary Elizabeth Blight, nee Neylan......
Eliza BLIGHT aged 54 of Wirrabara and married died 19 April 1943 at Booleroo Centre.
Relative = John William BLIGHT (Husband)
Ref = Fro 662/1959
She may have been known as Eliza. On the other hand, the age given is a bit out....Mary Elizabeth gave her age as 20 when she married in 1904.
There are no other deaths that look likely to me.

Hi Dee,
Just been looking at SA marriages and there is a marriage for a John William Blight, aged 37, to an Eliza GLISSERT, aged 30 in 1919 at Laura. Father of John William Blight is also John William Blight. I thought this may have been my John William Blight's 2nd marriage but they are both noted as being Single.
I would think this is possibly the same Eliza BLIGHT whose death you found in 1943 at Booleroo Centre.
I'll recheck the deaths up until 1915, maybe she died earlier.
Thanks for your time in looking for me, much appreciated, Sashar
-
Can't see anything in SA deaths up to 1915 that's fits for Mary Elizabeth BLIGHT either. She had a son in 1905 so had to be between 1905-1915 that she died to be on that CD and there isn't many or anything like her Christian names with the surname BLIGHT.
I think I'll leave it 2night and have a rethink.
Thanks for your time - Sashar

Thanks everyone all for the information I am receiving, so good to find out the family history.
Learnt more in the last day than in the past.
Would like any info on my father that anyone has.
Thank you

Susy it would appear some of the family went to Western Australia.

Unfortunately the electoral rolls in South Australia are not online. I have access to the 1909 SA one but the YEING name is not on it.
Perhaps a transcription of his death certificate would be helpful. About half the price of a certified certificate and information is the same.

Mother was Violet Dorothy Gliessert.
I am Susanne Yeing, I had 8 sisters and 3 brothers living when I was born in 1949 plus 1 brother deceased.
Mother's siblings were Blights, do not know much more than that, except what is on here.
Any one related I would love to here from you, I now know there is an Aunt in Queensland who is my fathers brothers wife.
Thank you all

In the Biographical Index of Sth Australia, Adam Reid is listed as a shoemaker but no indication of where he has come from.
On the marriage certificate in 1885 of his son Michael he is listed as a shoemaker.
He died in 1898 at Pt Augusta west, about 22yrs after his wife Mary. She is buried at Georgetown but he isn't.
I suspect he is in the Old Pt Augusta Cemetery of which there are no records and only a few remaining headstones. I believe you can't enter the cemetery anymore.
There are no father's names on the marriage record of Adam and Mary to research back to his origins. There must be some connection to the name LOVELL through the REID or KENNELLY side as it pops up as a middle name with John & Helena BLIGHT nee Reid's children and also in my line with Thomas and Catherine SMITH nee Reid's children.
Arthur DAVIS was born c1850, his father was Thomas. When Arthur married Elizabeth Jane BLIGHT in 1897 he was 47 and he married in his mothers home at Wilmington. I presume then that his father had died by then. I haven't really researched further for this side so will have a look sometime today to see if I can find anything further.
If you post 1 more message you can contact me or Susy privately.
Regards,
Sashar

Hi all,
Sad news but not unexpected, my delightful Aunt from Bunderberg has passed over, saddened but heard that she was delighted with our contact.
She had her 93rd birthday in Feb, i spoke to her niece who said that our chats had pleased her very much,
Thanks for everyone help previously, have a little hole in my heart at the moment.

Hi Susy, Sorry to hear about your Aunt at Bunderberg. The elderly are a wonderful source of information, we all have so much to learn about our ancestors. I have been able to trace the Davis family back to Thomas and Matilda who sailed to Australia 31st Jan 1849 from Plymouth on the "Stebonheath".
I have hit a stone wall with the Blight family. Only able to go back to Adam Reid m Mary Kennelly 2nd Sept 1854. Children Helena Eleanor 1855, Mary Jane 1858, Michael 1863, Catherine 1867, Adam Tennant 1867, Annie 1872, Sarah Ann 1875.

Mother was not a Blight, her sister Florence was and i know there was a brother also his name was Grant.
Think there are a lot of relatives scattered around Wirrabara, Booleroo etc

Hi all, i'm on a mission (are not we all?) to further my understanding of my ancestors in South Australia, in particular a Henry Yeing, born 1844 in South Australia, died 1918. There was a user last active on here in June 2011, HENG, she is a Yeing, i think she may have some helpfully knowledge into my families history. Is there any way to contact Susy AKA "HENG". Henry (Harry) Yeing is my GGG Grandfather (on my grandmothers side, i think thats right...)
Any help is greatly appreciated.
