can anyone help. am still new at this but with the advice off here i have managed to trace quite a bit of my dads family and really cheered him up on his 70th with the history of his mums family.
Only problem is my mum got a bit jealous and as it is her 70th soon i thought i would try and trace her tree.
the only information i have is that her dad was called Goodman Howard Samuel her mu Jane cooper and brother Geoffery Leslie goodman. I know they all lived at Farden Angel Bank nr Ludlow shropshire, then moved to Presteigne and then Rhayader Wales where she met my dad.
Howard was born 1909 6th november and Jane was 21st Nopvember year unknown
Thanks for any guidence.
Wend
hope this is right place sorry if not

Hi Wend,
Glad your Dad received so much pleasure from your research
I think you will have to purchase a couple of birth certs to get further back with certainty
Birth reg

Possible birth reg for jane
Jane Cooper
Dec qtr 1912

here we go -I have a theory!!!!!!!!!!!
I have found an Aaron Cooper -who fits the bill -hereford/Radnor Wales /Ludlow connections -father James-died between 1871-81 (haven't looked his birth up yet) but......
this Aaron -only one I can find in England/Wales who "fits" was b. abt 1860 -which would make him 39 at marriage
It's very possible the marriage cert has been mistranscribed at some stage - I have come across a 9 being transcribed as 5 (and vice versa) on quite a few occasions (even on FreeBMD-volume page nos)
My grandfather was 36 when he married but the cert has been mistranscribed as 30 (similar problem with 6 & 0)
I have this family from 1851-1891 - but Aaron is not at home after 1871-will search for him again.
What was his occupation on the marriage cert???
and was he a bachelor???
and would you like the census I have found -I have a really good feeling about them -but it's up to you to decide??????
Suz
-
that would be great thanx loads. You have been right so far. Marriage cert says bachelor and occupation as labourer
that makes sense on age as well. would love to know more on these people as it seems unusual for a widower to bring up 4 children on his own in that day and why is he so hard to find?. Have photo of him looking very dignified with hat and kravate and looks well.
wendy

I can't find him in 1881/91/01 checked England /Wales -but not Scotland

Mary and hannah I haven't traced yet -they may have married -but there are so many with similar names.

It might be an idea to put out a post asking specifically for Aaron in 1881/91/01 -stating info you have -e.g. not with wife in 1901 etc.
The others are very consistent with p.o.b., so you'd expect Aaron to be ?
Will try later

Hello Wendy,
I'm coming to this a bit late as I haven't done any research for a few years. Sam Goodman is my great grandfather and Howard Goodman would be my great uncle - did he die around 1977-1978? If you are still interested I have traced the Goodmans back to around 1800?
Regards
Andy Goodman

Hi Wendy,
That's about as far back as I've gone though I had a birth date of 13th March 1785 for Martin. We found the older information in Shrewsbury library and we ran out of time. I've recorded that Martin married a Susan Warrington but if I remember correctly we noted that a few years later he was married to somebody else, possibly Susan's sister, or did she change her name? Really must find the time to go back to Shrewsbury.
I have got a name for Martin's mother - Elizabeth
I've not gone very far up the Lloyd tree though, I've only got Clara's parents.
Regards
Andy

Hello Andy Goodman,
I know that I am responding to a very old post but I am tracing my father's maternal line and hope you can help.
My father's mother was Eleanor Cecelia Goodman born 1905 near Ludlow. I know that she had a sister Claris and a brother Leslie (who I met once when I was v young). I also know that she lived as a child at 2 Railway Terrace,Cainham before she moved to Slough at about 14 to go into domestic service.
I would be ever so grateful if you could let me have any info you have on these Goodman's.
I believe Eleanor Cecelia's parents were Samual Goodman and Clara Lloyd.
Thanks for any info

wendy
-
Hello,
I didn't realise she had a brother called Howard (Harold)! I am Celia's youngest grand daughter and sadly none of her sons (my unlces) know much about her family . I only ever remember her mentioning a sister called Claris and a brother Lesley who I met as a kid.
Any info that you have on the Goodmans would be gratefully received.
Thanks
Dibs
-
it would be great to share info. There were 6 siblings altogether. I have traced back to 1785 on most of the Goodman line and most of decsenants. I do not have much info on Eleanor so that would be great if you wiling to share. Perhaps We can exchange emails and go from there. It is great to meet up with lost relatives and this site has been SO helpful to me.

oh and I still have contact with a lot of the goodmans and live near Knowbury where they are all from.

Hi,
Thanks for that. You can have whatever info I have on Eleanor Cecelia (not much i'm afraid). I always thought she lived on the Clee Hills but I keep seeing reference to Knowbury, Bitterley and Cainham?
Would be great to be in touch by email...how do we do that?
-
Have pm you with my email address. Made me laugh you can tell we related I am usless at this internet business too

Hi Dibs (and Wendy),
Knowbury, Bitterley and Cainham are in the area of Clee Hills so you are correct in thinking that they lived on the Clee Hills, Titterstone Clee to be precise.
I've got back as far as Wendy on the Goodman line but ran out of the time at the library at that point. If I can get back a couple more generations it may well link up with some other research that somebody else has done that includes the Goodmans in the Clee Hill area and that goes back to the 1600s if I remember correctly, but it's been a while.
I can try and send you a tree of what I've got if that is of interest to you.
Regards
Andy

andy that would be brill. Thanks so much. Isnt it great we have caught up. Its all well and good getting the paper trail but the family stories are great. Happy christmas to all my new found family.
