Hello
Anyone with information about John Tweedie (1818 - 1877) and his wife Phillis Steele ( c1828 - 1897), who lived in Lochmaben? I have some details of their family and descendants.
I am also interested in Phillis' parents, Joseph Steel and Jean Clinkscails.
Thanks

Hello Gadget
Sorry for being so rude and not getting back sooner. Yes this information was really useful, although I did have some of it already but the confirmation that I was on the right track was great for me;D
The problem seems to be linking Joseph Steele and Jean Clinkscails elder children to the younger ones. I know that many women had children over a period of 20-30 years and would be grandmothers and mothers in the same year. There is no parish record for a birth/christening for Phillis, so her year of birth is a rough estimate based on Census Returns and her Death Certificate.
One question, do you know where I would find the records for Dumfries Jail in 1851? There is a Joseph Steel listed there in the 1851 Census. I would also like to know if he died in Jail before 1855. ???
Thanks for all your help

Hi Lesley
My 3 x grt was in Kirkcudbright jail in 1832. I managed to get the charge and release documents for him. I was living a long way from there at the time and paid a local researcher to get them for me.
The documents might be in The Ewart library:
http://www.dumgal.gov.uk/dumgal/MiniWeb.aspx?id=86&menuid=980&openid=949
Give them a ring as they are very helpful.

Hi Pam,,,saw the post. The info I posted was handed to me without explaination of where it came from. If you would give me the information on your website, I will include it and give credit where it is due. I thought the person who gave it to me did the work. I don't like people using others info without the credit, and would like to put it in. Sorry, I did not know this was your research.

Brenda,
It's no problem at all :)
I just worry that I have made mistakes and they get perpetuated. When my website is alive and well again I'll post the link and you will see the context. The format is just how I add notes to Legacy. I'm more than happy for people to use it as a lead as long as they satisfy themselves as to the accuracy.
All the best,
Pam

Hello i found out Elizabeth tweedie, had a illegitimate child at the age of 18, of which i am a decendant, a mr john Imrie was the father, in the 1861 census a grandson of 3 months is listed in the family, i recently aquired the court documents where john gibson tweedie sued john imrie for child support, this changed my moms whole family from tweedie to Imrie
