Hi' just woundering does anyone know how far back census go.Mark

There were various surveys of population but many did not name people.  There has been a census every ten years since 1801 (in England and Wales, except 1941) but the first one that purported to name everyone was taken in 1841.

Some of the pre-1841 census survive but coverage is patchy.
