Over the many years of FH research I have NEVER found another researcher working on the above...........
Where are you ALL ?????
My direct line
Martha Unwin b 1842 = Charles Taylor
Her parents...Timothy Unwin bc 1818 = Sarah Ann Miller
His parents ...Nathaniel Unwin bc 1781 =Susan
I have details of the families from censuses etc......they were Ag Labs and Gardeners....no link has been found to Unwin Seeds.......but the family said there was a link to Chivers Jams !!!
I do hope that there is someone out there also researching them.

Hi Gilld
Well you've done the right thing in entering them in the surname interests table,
hope someone contacts you soon
Kind regards,
Barbara :)
-
Thanks Barbara...it has been there for years !!
I do feel rather 'lonely' with the Unwin family.....as I have many contacts on ALL my other lines, having found and met a number of close and distant relatives, sharing our research and helping others.
Fingers crossed that this time someone will reply !!!

Wasn't Unwin seeds based in Histon-the same village as Chivers Jams? There may well be a connection.
-
Thanks Anneb...
The 'family story' says that one of the Unwins married one of the Chivers.........their land/gardens joined. Now we all know that somewhere there could be a grain of truth .....!!
I have been in touch with a 'Chivers' researcher years ago but we found nothing, as with the Unwin seed family.
Histon aned Impington are VERY close, in fact some of my Unwins were born in Histon !!
I hope that one day I'll find another researcher on my line who can fill in the missing pieces of the jigsaw..........it has worked on other lines.

I think that a lot of the Chivers family were Baptists-the foundation stone of the Baptist chapel at Haddenham was laid by one of the family and they had fruit farms in the village.
Many years ago I had a summer job in the jam factory at Histon.
-
Looks as if I have found the Unwin/ Chivers connection.
1881 Alfred Unwin cousin of my grand mother was living at Impington with his wife Sarah Matilda ( nee Chivers married 1873) Alfred was a farmer of 10 acres...........so the family story that his land joined Chivers land is a serious possibility. Obviously this needs certs to prove my theory. I have photos of some of the family and stories of my mother and her sister visiting relatives with farmland.
I know that many of the Unwins had families......maybe one day I'll find a contact !!!
Thanks for the tip about the Baptists Anneb. I have never lived in the Cambs area but did go to school close to Robertsons Jam factory....so know the smell !!!

I went to www.familysearch.com and found
Alfred Unwin Parents:
Father: Nathanael Unwin Family
Marriages:
Spouse: Sarah Matilda Chivers Family
Marriage: 18 DEC 1873 Histon, Cambridge, England

You are right Histon and Impington are basically the same village with the Parish boundaries being very wobbly and almost impossible to follow. Don't give up there are still Unwins living in Histon/impington today. The Chivers Jam factory is still there but Unwins seeds in the village closed down a few years ago. At some time in the past I know Impington Lane the site of Unwin seeds was known by some as "Unwin lane" because there were at least six members of the Unwin family living there.
So they must be out there somewhere.........

A bit of looking around, just for the record there is also:
1871
James Unwin
Frances Ann Chivers
Marriage: 27 June 1871 Histon, Cambridge, England
:)
I am not researching this family line but my Grandmother worked at Chivers for a while.

Hi,
I stumbled across your message re Unwin's of Cambridgeshire.
My Grandfather, Alfred Unwin was born in Duxford, the home of "our" Unwins for several generations, in 1876 and later moved to York, where he met my Grandmother, Blanche Bradley.
He was a Boer War Veteran and registered in the Census 1903 as Groom and Horse breaker.
They had 7 children, four in England, Alfred, Alice, Ivy and Doris and three, May, Leonard and Stanley (my father), after emmigrating to Australia in 1912, where they settled and lived their life in Rockhampton, Queensland.
Attached is an old family photo taken circa 1952.
My cousin's wife has a lot of material and I have given her all my findings back several centuries whene we were Onions.

Tracing William (founder of seed firm) back through censuses it looks as if his parents were james and Frances
1881 census: Piece number 1657 Folio 31 Page 2

Going back to 1851 when James was with his parents, they were Nathaniel and Susan and he had a brother Alfred b abt 1847, and in 1841 there is a William b abt 1838 in the household (presumed to be another brother). Haven't located this William later though, so may have died young.
Nathanial the father was born abt 1811 in Huntingdon, age doesn't fit with OP's Nathanial, but right age to be her Timothy's brother and son of her Nathanial
-
The father of Frances Ann Chivers was Philip. He could be the son of John and brother of Stephen who started the fruit and jam manufacturing

hello all, I am researching a possible connection between the name Inpijn - a Dutch name
with an unknown origin and the Unwins from Impington lane that I've found documents on online.
I received a possible match from a geaneology website (Myheritage) of the name Jan Inpijn
with John unwin (Myheritage points to a link in my family tree but right now, I am an unpaid member so I cannot
confirm this yet). I wonder if there are records of Unwins moving to the Netherlands?
