???
Please can someone look up birth records for CATHERINE (or ?Katherine) A FENNESSY b c1854 Tipperary (known as Kate). Mother was Mary. She moved to England (Liverpool) pre 1873. I have no more details before she married except that family lore has it she came from Cork, despite census records stating Tipperary. I would love to trace her further back, but she has proved to be a complete brick wall so far!
Attached is a pic of her daughter Lilian.

had a look on my disks think your right about Tipp.all Fennessy names seem to be around there and Wexford records don't start for some names until 1865 as you know most of them were destroyed do you have any later children that might be on hear

One question: How have you dated her arrival? Was 1873 when she married?
Presumably you have some information from census, (since you give a mother), can you include that? .
Thanks,
Pauline

Hi Audrey and PaulineJ
Thanks so much for helping with my brickwall!
Apart from records of her children's births (they all have Fennessy as a second name), this (below) is all I have on Kate. I can't find her marriage anywhere, though I believe it must have happened as they were a very Catholic family! Her first child Thomas died in March qtr 1873 aged 0 in West Derby; this is all I have to date her arrival in England. William was married before, his first wife Hannah died in childbirth in 1868 (her second pregnancy, the first baby died too), so Kate and William married sometime in between 1868 and 1872. My mother remembers Kate's death as c1927; she was told Kate came from Cork town, and the man's photo I have (? her father) was taken there. I should really like to know her ancestry and put a name to the photo.
Cheers, Rian.

Rian
just been going through BVRI and I find all Fennessy births on hear are Civil births so that would indicate to me that Fennessys on hear were not RC if I am wrong maybe some one will put me right on this

I was given to understand that the BVRi was conformist (ie Anglican) records, and included baptisms (not births).

Just had a look in 1871 and have found the widowed William Hopkins age 34 in Leeds.
RG10/4568 West Leeds Folio 26
(address is a hotel)
William Hopkins abt 1837 Bilston, Staffordshire Visitor COMMERCIAL TRAVELLER
So that reduces the window for the marriage at least. Can't find Kate & Mary though.

To Audrey and Pauline who were kind enough to try and knock down my Fennessy Brickwall: I just discovered (via the Tipperary family History Scty) that my Kate's parents were Thomas Fennessy and Mary Anne Cleary b 1831. She had siblings named Mary, Hubert, John and Charlotte.
(If anyone knows of them I would love to hear from you!)
Many thanks for all your help, Rian.

Hi Rian
I am wondering if your Fennessys are my Fennessys. My second great grandmother was Johanna Fennessy born 1833, from County Tipperary (Clogheen?). Her mother I believe to be Maria Vize and her father Andrew Fennessy. Johanna married my second great grandfather, Patrick Keelan in 1850 in
Croagh, Co Limerick, Ireland and they moved over to Liverpool, where they had several children, one of whom I am descended from. Does this ring any bells and do you thing they are the same Fennessys as yours? Thanks! Anne

I don't think they are related – sorry.
No Johanna in my family.
