Title: Athlone/Mullingar
Post by: Jack2227 on Sunday 23 November 08 22:26 GMT (UK)
Family Roots from Mullingar & Athlone includes a short version of 1901 & 1911 census from both areas, Athlone electors list 1941, and Mullingar electors list 1936.
Should anyone wish for a look-up from these areas, I will oblige, please allow a few days before a reply will be posted on this thread.

Hi Seanmac,
(My son is a Seanmac to!) Does the census cover Ballymore or is it just Mullingar town?
If it does list Ballymore could you please look up Owen and Bridget Molloy.

Thanks

Hi I was wondering if you have any records for the Melia family from Mullingar. My father is Lawrence Melia born 1931 and his father was Patrick Melia I think born about 1890?, my fathers mother was Alice Farell (I think her father was Lawrence Farell who ran the butchers in Multifarm(1890?) I think she was from Multifarm(not sure if spelt right) I believe, they lived at Bishops gate street, Mullingar and moved to 1 Cathedral view, mullingar in (1931?) I know they had about five children, Bridie, Mary, Rosanne, Thomas and my Father Lawrence.

Patrick was a builder in and around westmeath, he was married prior to my grandmother, dont know her name, they had John, Lilly, Patrick Jr, Baby? and James as far as I know.

I think Patrick my grandfather had 3 siblings, Frank, Tony and Mary, but again not sure, could be more etc.

My uncle Tommy played football for Mullingar Town and I think was known as the rubber man.

If you have any information on the melia and the Farell family, I would be very thankfull, sorry for the family tree.

Cheers John Melia(now in Stoke on Trent, England)

Hello John
I came across your message by accident and I think that my grandfather was a brother of Patrick. His name was Frank Melia and he lived at 10 Cathedral View. He died young aged 32 around early 1930,s I believe and left a widow Mary and three small children, one of whom was my mother who was then about 6 years. I remember Tommy Melia from when I was young, He used to cycle around town and collect for the football pools. Hope this is of some intrest to you.

Hi Caroline and welcome to rootschat,
My parents stayed with the family at number 12
cathederal view in 1940 for a few months after
they married in Mullingar cathederal
(eloped from Dublin) I have visited the
street and have photos somewhere and also
had a conversation with the lady at number 12.
don't want to mention the name here as for all I
know the family may still live there.my mother was
also in contact with the family for a while after that.
She talked often about all the people on that stretch
 of the street.

Hello

I am helping a cousin with her Westmeath ancestors. Her great grandfather was Patrick Creevy or Creevey, a shoemaker. Married in Mullingar 1876 to Sarah Brien and again in 1903 to Bridget Hand. Sarah may have died before the 1901 census. Children I know from his first marriage: Anne 1887, Patrick 1891, Sarah abt 1894 & Elizabeth or Lizzie 1895. Last 2 from 1911 census only when Patrick lived with his 2nd wife & family at Grove Street, Mullingar. Could you possibly look for him on the 1901 census please? Thank you. Cathy

Thank you very much. I think no 13 Grove Street may be  the family I am after. Bridget Hand at number 11 may be Patrick's future wife as her father was named James. Now I shall feel it's worthwhile planning a trip to London to find the 1901 census return on microfilm. Or I could just wait patiently for the NAI to put it online??!!

Hello Jack
I'm pushing my luck now. After your Info on the Creevy family was so helpful, could you please look for another person on the 1901 census in Mullingar and also the 1936 electors list.
Name: Thomas O'Brien or Brien, born abt 1884, father also Thomas. Thomas the younger married Anne or Annie in 1910. She was born in 1887. I have them on the 1911 census.
I know they lived in Mullingar after they married and had a daughter born in Patrick Street Mullingar in 1920.
Thank you for your help.
Cathy

Hi Dickobrien,
Just been looking at your message. Now this maybe a long shot so please excuse me if I'm way off the mark. I have a copy of a birth certificate (1928) for child of Anne Doran no fixed residence.
I have thought for sometime they were of traveller stock and it was your reference to travellers that caught my eye.
My Anne was married to Lawrence Rooney. Is this of any help to you.  :-\
