Title: COMPLETE 1871 & 1881 scotland census lookup request
Post by: Riddlebrick on Sunday 28 December 08 15:41 GMT (UK)
hello

I have a marriage certificate for Jane Henderson and William Allison from 1887 in Edinburgh

It lists Jane's parents as David Henderson (deceased) his profession is listed as Cooper and Janet Henderson formerly Brown.

I cannot find any census records for Jane prior to her marriage.  The IGI has her birth as 19 AUG 1865 Edinburgh Parish, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.

Can anyone assist

Regards

I notice that the IGI entry shows her as Jane MARGARET - did both names appear on her marriage cert or just Jane

A parent search on the IGI shows other children born to David and Janet

HELEN ANN HENDERSON   Birth:  24 SEP 1870

MARGARET HENDERSON  Birth:  09 AUG 1859    suspect she may have died hence Jane being given Margaret as a second name

DAVID HENDERSON  Birth:  18 DEC 1862

JAMES BROWN HENDERSON   Birth:  06 AUG 1872

BARBARA FORBES HENDERSON  Birth:  04 NOV 1868

It is just jane on the marriage cert, but her husbands middle name doesn't appear on it either.

I do have james and david on my tree, along with a pether living with janet in 1881

Hi

Have a look at the 1871 for Midlothian transcribed as HECKERSON

The 1881 is correctly transcribed for Janet who is presumably widowed as no entry for David

Son Peter Henderson Age: 4  born Edinburghr, Water of Leith so David must have died between his birth/conception and 1881

I think my Henderson family is connected to yours.  My great-great grandfather was William Henderson, married to Janet Mackay.  I believe William was born C1821 and Janet born c1825 but not sure as I have no exact dates.  William and Janet were married in Wick, in 1863.

In 1871, William and Janet were living in Wick - there were a number of Fergusons also living at the same address.

William's parents were David Henderson and Barbara Forbes.  David was born c1797 and Barbara c1800.

Given the name of one of your David's daughters - Barbara Forbes Henderson born in 1868, could it be possible that your David had a brother named William?

Sorry for the delay in replying, yes I do have William as a brother for David.  I don't however have any other information on him as I've not yet started to delve down those branches yet.
