There was Buckridden maternity home in Kilwinning. Now a nursing home.
-

I just checked it was indeed the maternity hospital for Kilwinning so possibly Dalry which is only 6 miles away It was Called Ayrshire Central Hospital
-
Buckridden was also a maternity home, many of the local women had there children there . It was in Kilwinning.
-
I was born in Ayrshire Central Hospital, Irvine while my younger brother was born in Buckreddan (note spelling) Maternity Hospital, Kilwinning.

Buckredden in 1954 depending upon where you lived. Ayrshire Central later with transfer to Buckredden if everything straightforward. Now all at Crosshouse Hospital Maternity unit.
-
Buckredden was the main maternity for the Ayrshire area.It was situated between Kilwinning and Irvine.I believe another Maternity hospital was in the grounds of Irvine Central Hospital .I nursed in the main Irvine Central Hospital in the late 1970's and the maternity [not that I worked there] was stillin operation then. But most of us 'baby boomers' and earlier were born at the Buckredden unit.

Conflicting Information , its seems there is a bit of confusion over the maternity units around Irvine / Kilwinning
There were 2 units about 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile apart Buckreddan in Kilwinning also known as Maternity Home / Hospital , Kilwinning and Ayrshire Central Hospital , Irvine also known as Irvine Central Hospital , with both Irvine or Kilwinning address
I have 2 brothers , born 1946 and 1949 both in Irvine Central

Hi,
See this report for more info on Ayrshire Hospitals
http://www.nuffieldtrust.org.uk/sites/files/nuffield/publication/hospital_and_community_2_october_1950.pdf
page 10 gives a list of hospitals as on 31 Dec 1948.
Buckreddan Maternity Hospital was closed 01/01/84 sometime after which it became a care home.
-
HI,
Ayrshire Central didn't close as a maternity unit until 2005/6 when the new unit opened at Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock. The maternity building has now been demolished but the rest of the hospital is still in existence.
