Hello :)
I have just discovered that my great- grandparents were John Taylor and Harriet Saunders. If anyone has any info on them, it would be great. Have found them in the census etc, but would be nice to find out a little more.
Many Thanks,
Katerina

Hi Katerina,
Welcome to Rootschat.
When and where were they born and also do you know when they were married.
Suanne
-
Hi Suanne,
Thank you for your reply :)
John was born in Bristol in 1841 and Harriet in Chard, Somerset in 1852. They were married in Launceston in 1871.
John and Harriet had 19 children - so lots of descendents :) Until a few weeks ago I had no knowledge of this side of the family at all and although I have lots of info from the census - this doesn't tell the whole story. I was hoping that someone (maybe a relative) would contact with info :)

Hi PortholeMike,
Welcome to Rootschat and many thanks for your reply. It was kind of you to submit that info - very interesting.
I was wondering whether you had done any research into Mark Taylor and Charlotte Lewis? I've hit a brick wall as far as this couple are concerned. I haven't been able to find a marriage for them or even identify who their parents were :)
Best Wishes,
Katerina

Hi PortholeMike
I do have a copy of that waggon now - but thank you for your offer. It's an amazing picture - really reflects life as it was then. I would have loved to have taken a close look at it :)
If I manage to find out anything about Mark and Charlotte - I will post details on here as I think there are quite a few people interested in this family.

family word of mouth cause as you know joe taylor was my husbands grt grandad and two of his daughters married into our birch family.vashti to james birch our grt uncle and harriet to william birch our grandad and granma.i have pic of joe taylor and henry taylor and jack taylor.
family word of mouth actually says that mark came from another country and was in fact jewish but whether it is fact or fiction i dont know.alot of us are searching for marks and charlottes roots!!!!has anyone still got a photo of henry penfold and ocean penfold/nee hughes as i lost mine in a computer breakdown and would love to recieve another?pm me for my email address if you have.thanks cathay.mike i would love a copy of joe and betsys brush wagon.the one i have belongs to james penfold if your interested.
-
Hi Cathay,
Have you managed to find any siblings for Mark or Charlotte? All I've managed to find is a brother, born a few years after Mark and that's Daniel Taylor. This was through the census, so expect you have him already.
I haven't any siblings for Charlotte at the moment.
Someone mentioned to me that the Taylors may have come from Ireland - but nothing to confirm that.
I didn't realise that they might have been Jewish though - thanks for that.

A friend of mine has a photograph of a Penfold ancestor, but only as a photocopied page from an unidentified book. It is described as being of a brush wagon c1880, Penfold, Bideford Quay, supplied by Mr B Hughes, Chairman of N Devon Museum Trust. The page is numbered 97. I would like to help her find the book it was in, and perhaps obtain a proper photograph for her.
I have contacted North Devon records office, but received no reply. I don't think the North Devon Museum Trust still exists. The photo looks very much like the one of Betsy Penfold & family on Romanygenes at the bottom of Photo Gallery 4, & maybe the same one. Is this the photo mentioned in this thread?
If anyone can help my friend would be very grateful

The brush wagon belonged to james penfold.they were devonshiregypsiesli

Hi Everyone,
I've also been trying to research the Taylor family. I've an indirect link - Mark Taylor born 1870 inTiverton son of John and Harriet Taylor was married to my 2 x great aunt Ellen Lemon. My great grandparents were witnesses at their wedding. They had two children before he left Barnstaple and later married again to Cora Maria Cartwright. Mark and Cora were in Shropshire but then settled in Holywell in North Wales. I'd like to learn more about the Taylors and whether there were family links to North Wales. It's been tricky to untangle Mark's life as there was another Mark Taylor son of Thirza Taylor nee Andrews born in Barnstaple in 1868. Please are you able to give me any information about the Taylor family?
-
hi yes we are related to mark taylor. and john and harriet taylor.i am in touch with many of living relatives today.joe taylor was our greta grandad.have some photos and other bits including johns will.will pm you my email address and see what we can share together.hugs cathayb
-
Hi Cathay,
Thank you. I'm still not very confident that everything I think I know about Mark Taylor hangs together. Some things I'm fairly sure of though. I'm happy to share what I have. I'll reply to your pm
Best Wishes Mary
