Has anyone got any information on John McClure of Killogue...farmer.. His father may have Adam McClure...not sure of Adam's wife's name but it may have been Molly Tweed
-
If you can give us some dates it would help us suggest were you can look for more information. Will move this to proper board (rather than Ireland-General) if you'll let me know what county this Killogue is in.

Hi,
I have found
23 Oct 1853 Adam McClure married Margaret Tweed in Kilraughts 1st Presbyterian Church, Ballymoney, Co. Antrim.
I cannot find John McClure but I suppose he was born before official registration started in 1864.
Regards
-
The are lots of McClure in Kilraughts area (outside Ballymoney) so if megbe can confirm dates or other information that ties in with the McClure-Tweed marriage we might be able to find more.
-
Hi,
Thanks for reply,
The John McClure I'm interested in was my Grandfather.. He died 25th feb 1929 and I think he was 73 years old. His marriage was probably April 5th 1905 . His wife was Elizabeth B.Clarke . She died Jan. 24th 1922 aged 49 . They had three children.. I am interested in getting details of both their parents... I think John's father was Adam McClure and his mother may have been Mollie Tweed . "lizzie" Clarke's mother may have been Eliza Boyd. Other possible McClure's in Adam's family were John McClure died Dec 1875, William died Jan 1897 and James who died May 1898. Don't take these dates as accurate although I think they are fairly close.
Hoping to hear from you

Hi,
How do these fit?
12 Jul 1869 William Clarke married Elizabeth Boyd in Kilraughts 1st Presbyterian Church
Following children are listed on a parent search on IGI
Elizabeth 4 Apr 1872 Emerald ancestors gives her birth location as Castlequarter, Ballymoney
Annie 7 Jun 1874
Margaret Matilda 11 Feb 1878
Regards
-
Thanks Kingskerswell, You details fit very well, The Elizabeth you mentioned would be my maternal grandmother who had two sisters Anne or Anna who married Adam Loughridge and Maggie who married Bleakley.. Was there any mention of a brother...not too sure about this.. sorry about the mistake in direction...obviously it didn't deter you but going from Ballymoney to Ballymena is south not north...
Regards Megbe.
-
Hi,
Sorry, no mention of a brother in Emerald Ancestors or on the IGI. However the former only does births up to 1875 and the latter to about 1885. Don't worry about the direction mishap, Aghadowey says the church is just outside Ballymoney and that good enough for me. I further checked on Annie and the family were still at Castlequarter when she was born. I do not know where this is.
Regards

Castlequarter is civil registration district that covers Kilraughts.
Have McClure connection from Kilraughts that should be visiting aunt on Friday and will try to see if she knows any thing about this McClure family.

Just to confuse us a bit more there seem to be McClures in Killogue:
"Administration (with the Will) of the personal estate of James M'Clure late of Killogue County Antrim Farmer who died 31 May 1898 granted at Belfast to John M'Clure of Killogue Farmer the Brother." (www.proni.gov.uk)
However, here's an intersting one from Dervock (which is not far from Kilraughts):
"Administration (with the Will) of the Estate of James McClure late of Stroan Dervock County Antrim Farmer who died 17 November 1911 granted at Belfast to Adam Wales McClure Horse Dealer and Farmer"
Added Note: Adam Wales McClure m.24 June 1908 Minnie Brown Boyd (187_-5 Apr.1953) & had family.
-
Hello Aghadowey,
You have been working hard I see.. The Killogue address is definitely the correct one for my connections . Don't know that Dervock has any connection.... Any ideas for John and James's father who I believe to be Adam McClure married to Mollie Tweed although the 1911 census states that John's mother lived with him then ( she would have been in 80's at that time) but he entered her name as Mary. This also means that his father was already dead before 1911. There has been a post of Adam McClure married to a Margaret Tweed,in 1853 which is an OK.date but can Mollie,Margaret and Mary all be variations of the same person?? I'm not sure..I will keep digging!!

Megbe,
I have double checked my McClure/Tweed marriage and noticed that I misspelled the name. The marriage I mentioned was Adam McLure to Margaret Tweed.
I then checked further and found an Adam McClure who married Mary Fee in Belfast Registrar's office, Shankill, Belfast on 4 Aug 1855.
My apologies for the error.

I also have McClures of Kilraughts. my great Grandfather born circa 1821 son of William and died 1897 at Lisnisk. His second marriage was to My great grandmother Mary Jane Hart in 1877 at Ballymoney Reformed Presbyterian church - his residence at this time was Lisboy. They had several children -William married Martha Chestnut-Jane Married Adam Elliott and my grandmother Sarah Married David Alexander He Also had a son Robert born 1888 and living at Kilraughts in 1911 census.
I should like to find out more about the family and also to find out if the Ballymoney Reformed church records have been filmed or on Fiche

Welcome to Rootschat, Sally. As far as I know the records for Ballymoney Reformed Presbyterian Church have not been microfilmed and are still in local custody.

Where did you find William Andrew in 1901? if he was living in Ireland in 1911 he should be listed in the census
-
hello there aghadowey i am margarets daughter and have taken on this family tree as a project if you will i have been confused by this mystery for at least 5 years, William Andrew does just seem to disappear from records sadly and we have no idea where he was buried either, it is something my dad named after him has always wanted to know so we can pay our respects too our relatives, in 1901 i believe he was in Union St in Ballymoney i could be wrong here but we have been told William Andrew was blind and dumb so we don't believe he would have left his home, or Ireland for that... so if anyone has any info i would love to know too add to the family tree descendant report i have

There is this William McClure in Union Street, Ballymomey at 1911:

yeah sorry dunno if i was clear before were looking a William Andrew Clarke born 1876 just outside ballymoney a place called ballyveely road may have been called castle quarter lower back then like i say its a mystery im just hoping someone sees this and can shed more light on it for my family
-
It is a bit confusing as this thread started out about McClures (as in the title) and now you're l;ooking for a William Andrew Clarke but a few points as you don't seem to know the area too well.
William Andrew Clarke born 1876 just outside ballymoney a place called ballyveely road may have been called castle quarter lower back then
Castlequarter is the district (D.E.D. in census) not the name of the place. Road names only started being used in the country from about the 1970s so before that date the address would have been the townland.
Ballyveely is divided into two townlands- Upper and Lower. In 1901 there's a John Clarke and family here- no sign of a William-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Antrim/Castlequarter/Ballyveely_Lr_/944074
in 1901 i believe he was in Union St in Ballymoney
There are no Clarkes in Union St., Ballymoney in 1901 but there are some in there in 1911 (but not a William Clarke)

Ok, a 30yr old William Clarke died at Union Street on 14th July 1910. Mother, Elizabeth, was present. Father, William, already deceased. Cause of death was Congenital Imbecility.
-
William Clarke born 28 Jan.1876 Ballyvilly [Ballyveely]- no middle name when registered-

https://www.townlands.ie/search/?q=ballyveely
In 1924 Electoral Register there's an Elizabeth Clarke, Union St.
Kilraughts Presbyterian Church-
Samuel Clarke, Ballyveely, died 1949; wife Annie died 1964

-
A widowed Eliza Clarke, aged 72, in Union Street at 1911:
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Antrim/Ballymoney/Union_Street/125934/
with two daughters also living there.
Although widowed, she stated married 40yrs, with 4 children born and 3 children living.
-
Link to William Clarke's death certificate (1910)- age given as 30-

John Clark, Ballyveely, and Annie Rice had son William in 1879-

Eliza Clarke and children in 1901- son Andrew is 23 & listed as blind-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Antrim/Ballymoney__Urban__and_Ballymoney_Urban_District/Queen_Street/1009118
Added- Union St. is off Queen St. so they probably didn't move too far
-
So, perhaps William who died in 1910, was known as Andrew, to distinguish him from his father, William.
-
That very well could be him then, thanks, as for not knowing the area i grew up here i just happen to be terrible with names but thanks will pass info on to my mother
-
Perhaps it's just that you didn't grow up with townland names as addresses :)
-
No im still a young pup i guess at 27, tho i do try and learn the old terms (love local history)
-
Was wondering if you have any records as to where William Clarke is buried as William Clarke would be my husband's great uncle and his parents Eliza and William are his grandparents. We've looked a few graveyards and have so far not been successful any help would be greatly appreciated

If there is no headstone surviving (or never one in the first place) then it can be difficult to find where a person is actually buried. If they lived in Ballymoney then the most likely places of burial are the Cemetery (Knock Road) or a churchyard associated with the family.
