Thankyou for your help Judi, I already had that census information from 1851. Sorry I should have made my message a little clearer.  I am particularly interested in John pre 1851 particularly where he lived in Shifnal and his family. His marriage etc.

Best Regards
Bernie

There is a look up exchange for Shifnal  ( Pauline Pickering)

http://www.faulkes.co.uk/lookup/salop.htm.

May be worth asking for a lookup for John Smith

Hi Bernie

Sadly that will not be possible because John Smith was born prior to 1837 when it became law to register Birth's Marriages & Deaths .

Prior to 1837 it was not a legal requirement, the only registers that would be available to view may be the church/Parish registers that would contain a copy of his baptism record, but I would doubt it would give you much more than I have posted before ie date Parents & parish.

Hi Bernie

Just a thought ...If you ordered one of the children's ( born to John & Sarah ) birth certificates that would then give you her ( Susans ) Maiden name . we could then find the marriage & order that cert which would confirm both John & Susans fathers names & hopefully an address as to where they lived prior to the marriage.

Births Dec 1848  Susannah Smith          Walsall    17   233

The Certs would cost £7 each from here....http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

To make sure you are ordering the correct cert you can state that only if the father on the cert is a John Smith  mother Susan, do you want it

If the details  of the cert you requested do NOT match, you will not be charged the full amount. or sent the cert.

Hope that make sense Regards Judi
