The Gazetteer of British Place Names (http://www.gazetteer.co.uk/) is a very useful site which provides a British place name index showing the County in which the place lies and other information.

Thanks, that will be very useful

Hello Omskirk, I love the picture of your Granny, how did you come by it, was it passed down the family? How lucky you are having a picture of your Gtx4 Granny, we would all love one of those, thanks for sharing it with us.

Dear Mrswoman,
I realise how lucky I am, I have pics of all my grandparents from her to me, I found them by chance whilst looking for an address where one of my ancestors lived and I was directed to a house which had a wall full of photos of all my fathers line back to Sarah, I also found her grave.
The picture is a pen and watercolour painted in 1843.
Thank you for your comments, I do appreciate very much what I have

Thanks for telling me the history, I am in awe of the picture, and she was 89! I think it is a wonderful piece of history, many thanks from mrswoman.

Hi
I have registration for my uncles death but it states the district as Conway. Do you think this is a typo as I cannot find any Conway as a district in the U.K.?

It's not a typo. GENUKI is your friend.

Please can someone help. I am trying to find Twickenham & Southall on the IGI records and cannot find it. I have looked in London (incl Middlesex).

LDS have developed a very nice interactive map based on 1851 jurisdictions which seems to be fairly accurate:
http://maps.familysearch.org/
You can search for a place and then flip to the other tab to see how it fits into various jurisdictions or map backgrounds.
