Hello! I am researching the Crow family - Craw and Crowe also appear! The furthest back I am at the moment is John Craw (Crow) who married Joyce Mitchell in 1781 in Kineff, Kincardineshire. They had four sons, then moved up to Caithness. If anyone can help go further back, please get back to me thanks.

Please understand America is waiting for the answer. We have found no relief (information) in our country, other than to say my family is maybe from Scotland. But we don't know for certain.

I see you are looking for Crowe family members who have had their DNA tested. Sadly mine won't be of any use to you as I was adopted, so although I am researching the family as ancestors of my mother, my DNA is not connected.

My 6x great-grandfather is a John Crow/Craw. He married a Jean Webster in 1731 in Fordoun, Kincardinshire.
Their son David Crow/Craw is my 5x great-grandfather b.1734 Fordoun. I don't have any more information on other children of John Crow and Jean Webster at present as many of the OPR records just name the father which makes it hard to know if it's the same man.
David Crow married a Christina Finlayson in 1758, Fordoun. They had the following children;
John b.1760 (probably died infancy due to 2nd John later?)
Margaret b.1762 Fordoun
James b.1764 Fordoun (probably died in infancy as a 2nd James was named later)
Arthur b.1765 Fordoun
Christina b.1767 Fordoun
Jean b.1769 Fordoun
Elizabeth b.1774 Fordoun
James b.1775
Robert b.1778 Fordoun
Janet b.1781 Fordoun
John b.1783 Fordoun - my 4x great-grandfather, he died 1869 in the poorhouse, St Cyrus.
John Crow married Ann Robertson in 1805 at Garvock, Kincardinshire.
Any connections?
I haven't had my DNA tested, but I do live in Scotland in Angus.

I am also a descendant of John Craw/Crow and Ann Robertson. My great-great-grandfather was their youngest son, George (Born in 1825 in St Cyrus). He married Theodosia Johnson (also from St Cyrus). Their eldest child - Eliza - married my great-grandfather Samuel Green, in London (I am unsure what took Eliza down here).

Your great great grandfather George is my 3x great-grandfather David Crow's brother!
From my own research Theodosia Johnson's mother Philadelphia Hodges was born in London, so that may explain why her granddaughter Eliza went there.

Thank you :-) I have been rooting through the family history compiled by my cousin Richard. I visited St Cyrus once, briefly, in 2004, and would love to return to properly appreciate the landscape that side of the family lived, and worked, within. I have many ancestors buried there, as do you!

Oh, and incidentally, I understand that Philadelphia Hodges (what a magnificent name!) was married, in Cape Town, when she was c. 19 years old. How she ended up there is, maybe, something that has been lost in time.

I likewise am related to the Greens & Crowes.
Coincidence my father just showed me, this afternoon, the original copy of Samuel Green & Eliza Crow's marriage certificate in Shoreditch. They were my great grandparents.
