Title: LEWER family from London (Pimlico or Belgrave area)
Post by: Colum43 on Saturday 24 April 10 21:10 BST (UK)
My 4th Great-Grandmother is Emily Susannah LEWER. She was born abt. 1826 in Pimlico - London.
Parents: Henry LEWER & Ann MASON.

Emily Susannah LEWER married Arthur JONES. Arthur was in the army and the couple had lived in India. My 3rd Great-Grandmother: Jane Elizabeth JONES was born in India. Arthur died in India. Her mother married another soldier who was also stationed in India: James Henry BOND.

I like to learn more about the LEWER family from Pimlico or Belgrave. Henry LEWER was a bookbinder.
Would like to find baptism records of the family but have no idea which church they went too. In 1841 the family lived 33 Ranelagh Street in Belgrave - London.

Where do I start looking ..... ?

Regards,
Colum

In 1827 they appear to have been attending St George Hanover Square, at least for the baptism of Emily Susannah (bap. 18 March 1827, address Ranelagh St).

Other children of the couple baptised in the same parish appear to be:

30 April 1822: Sarah Augusta (address Pimlico)
25 April 1824: Harriet Eliza (address Ranelagh St)
20 Sep 1829: James Mason (address Ranelagh St)

Henry was a bookbinder according to each of the four baptism records.

Anna :)

Have you seen the family in 1851? Still at 33 Ranelagh St and Henry (48 b St Margaret's) seems to have remarried to a Hannah and acquired a "son-in-law": HO107/1478/174/22

Do you already have the marriage of Henry LEWER and Ann MASON (18 March 1822 St George Hanover Square)?

Oh wow ..... had not expect to get an answer that soon.

Children of Henry LEWER & Ann MASON:
- Sarah Augusta
- Harriet Eliza
- Augustus Henry
- Emily Susannah
- James Mason
- Jane ...
- Albina Henrietta
- Edward ...

Ann MASON died in 1843 and Henry LEWER married a Hannah. Not sure who she is yet as I believe she was married before ....

Thank you for the baptism dates.

Regards,
Colum

The marriage to Hannah may in fact (despite their claiming to be married in the 1851 census) come a little later:

Marriage Mar qtr 1853

Henry LEWER
Hannah PAGE

on same page, St George Hanover Square 1a 334

The young couple in their household in 1851 seem to be these:

Marriage Jun qtr 1846

Henry Fernival LEWER
Ann PAGE

on same page, St Martin 1 182

I wonder whether Hannah PAGE and Ann PAGE are mother/daughter?

I think they are mother & daughter.

Henry Fernival LEWER isn't a son of Henry LEWER & Ann MASON. He could have been a nephew to Henry LEWER.
Haven't found a connection yet .....

Everything I tell you, you seem to know already!

Perhaps if you set out in full what you already know and what you are looking for, we can avoid duplication of work.

NB I think Henry Fernival/Furnival LEWER is likely to be a son of Butler Adolphus LEWER, surgeon/dentist, who married Helen Johnson BLOOM in 1822. Have you looked into that?

All that I know is the parents of Emily Susannah LEWER and the names of her siblings. Have no dates of birth or baptism ....
I do have marriage of Emily Susannah LEWER with Arthur JONES and that of her parents.

Her mother Ann MASON died in 1843 and do know that Henry LEWER married again to a Hannah PAGE. Don't know her maidenname.

Don't know nothing about Henry Fernival LEWER. Don't know how he is connected. I guess, he could be a nephew to Henry LEWER.

I haven't manage to find parents of Henry LEWER so have no idea at all if he has siblings and if this Butler Adolphus LEWER could be a brother ??? ?

Same with Ann MASON .... no idea who her parents are and how I can find them. No info on marriage ....

Colum

Thank you very much for the info .... printed out for further research.

I need to find how Henry Fernival LEWER is connected and also his father Butler Aldophus LEWER.
I do believe they might be relatives.

Also need to find info on an Augustus Henry LEWER .... He was a witness at the marriage of Henry LEWER & Ann MASON.
They couple have a son also called Augustus Henry LEWER. No idea if he is his father or another relative ....

Colum

Burials:

Augustus Henry Lewer aged 50.
Abode: Dagenham, Essex
26 January 1827 at St John at Hampstead, Camden

Augustus Henry Lewer aged 59
Abode: Staines Road
10 March 1884 at St Leonard, Heston Road (Heston, Hounslow)

At a guess, I would say the first one was the witness at the marriage of Henry Lewer and Ann Mason. And in view of his age I'd guess they were brothers.

Hi, i am a direct descendant of Henry Furnival Lewer through his daughter Henrietta. I am most interested in expanding my family tree as far as possible by what means i have at my disposal, so any links to other family trees would be most appreciated, and i am more than willing to to the same . Henrietta married my twice great grandfather Bodo Jean Dangers. Thank you for any help given in this matter.

You may be interested to know that I think I resolved the Henry Furnival Lewer dilemma. Henry Lewer 1751 - 1819 had a son with Ann Clinkard nee Thompson by the name Butler Adolphus Lewer (circa 1802-1866) whom in turn with Helen Bloom nee Johnson had a son, Henry Furnival Lewer (1826-1866) That same mentioned Henry Lewer above, was previously married to Mary Langstaff and with her had a son, Augustus Henry Lewer (1777- 1827). Augustus married Ellen Bates and they had a son, Henry Lewer (1802 - 1863). This younger Henry Lewer married Ann Mason and with her had eight children. By 1851 however he was with Hannah Page, nee Roberts. This Hannah Page in fact is also Henry Furnival Lewer`s mother in - law, as she is Ann Pages biological mother. ( Ann Page and Henry Furnival Lewer are my three times great grand parents)
