Hi I am looking for some help to find Joseph greenwood no dob he married Isabella ? and had a daughter named Isabella Barr Greenwood dob c1877 she married Edward Johnstone Conniss .When Isabella married John Conniss i have found Joseph living in 12 Railway Terrace Murikirk Scotland but i think Joseph Greenwood came from Ireland I have found an adres 168 Garbald St Ireland i can not remember how i got this adress . Any help if this is possible would be greatfully accepted i have been looking for this side of the family for a while and do not know how to continue with the search.

Where did Isabella Barr Greenwood get married? When and where was she born? Scotland?
The address is probably Garibaldi St. but not sure where, if at all, in Ireland this would be.

Have looked at several sources and the only reference I can find of Joseph Greenwood and Isabella Barr is by doing a parent search on the IGI and this gives three children, all born in the west of Scotland between 1863 and 1872.

Thankyou for your reply Isabella Barr Greenwood married in Murikirk 2/6/1909 sorry not sure where she was born her adress when she got married was 12 railway terrace i have a copy of her marriage certificat but it is difficult to read, her father John was diseased by then . I think i have found them on Scotlads 1881 census
Joseph and Isabella have 6 children
David age 16 Mary aged 15 William aged 13 Sarah aged 11 Joseph aged 8 Isabella Barr 3 .
Wish i could give you more info i am running around in circles only new to this think i must be doing something wron the other side of the family flew out at me

Looks from 1881 census like Isabella Barr Greenwood was born c1878 so if you search on Scotland's People website her birth certificate should be there (may be registered as Isabella rather than Isabella Barr) and that will get date and place of parents' marriage. Then you can search for the marriage and get father's parents' names and work your way through other Scottish records to see if there is an Irish connection.

Isabella Barr Greenwood was born in Muirkirk, Ayr on 8 April 1878. Her parents were Thomas Greenwood and Agnes Greenwood, nee Woodburn. Her father was a coal miner and the parents were married on 31 Dec 1875 in what looks like GALSTON.
I am afraid that my earlier information was a red herring.

The 3 children I found by doing a Parent search on the IGI were
David born 1863 in Tradeston, Glasgow
Sarah 1871 born Dalry Ayr
Joseph born 1872 Stevenston Ayr.
These look fairly close to some of the names you found on the 1881 census.

I HAVE THE DEATH CERTIFICATES FOR JOSEPH AND ISABELLA GREENWOOD.
JOSEPH DIED 05 JAN 1909 AT KELVIN, GLASGOW AND ISABELLA GREENWOOD, NEE BAR 19.09.1908.
JOSEPH'S PARENTS ARE REGISTERED AS THOMAS, OCCUPATION -WEAVER, AND SARAH ELLIOT.
THEIR SON THOMAS GREENWOOD WHO MARRIED AGNES WOODBURN IN 1875 ALSO HAD AN ILLEGITIMATE SON WILLIAM PATERSON GREENWOOD BORN 1876.
IF ANYONE HAS ANY MORE INFORMATION ABOUT JOSEPH AND ISABELLA, I'D BE VERY GRATEFUL.
I NOTE THAT THEY WERE BORN IN IRELAND BUT DON'T KNOW WHERE OR WHEN. THANKS.

Hi Glitter 123 , I am now totally lost I have just looked at My Isabelle's wedding cert she was married in 1909 to Edward Johnston Conniss, her parents on the cert are John Greenwood coal miner and Agnes's who had remarried by 1909 but I am unable to read her new name on the certificate. Sorry if I have missled anyone and waisted anyones time I can only say that when I get any information i get a little over excited as this side of the family are very difficult to find .

I KNOW JOSEPH AND ISABELLA DEFINITELY HAD A CHILD NAMED ISABELLA BARR. COULD IT BE THAT THE FATHER ON HER MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE IS INCORRECT. MAYBE JOSEPH WAS KNOWN AS JOHN TOO? WHAT ARE THE PARENT'S NAMES ON HER DEATH CERTIFICATE?

Welcome to Rootschat, Glitter. This family does seem to be a bit difficult to sort out even with the certifiates that you already have found. What about the 1901 census- does that help clarify anything? If not, perhaps 1911 census will when it's released.
Meanwhile, you probably don't realise this but typing messages all in capitals is considered shouting so we try to avoid doing it.

Hi Glitter 123 .You may be wright about his name. I do not have my Isabella's birth or death cert (she belongs to my husbands side of the family) . Isabella and ? Joseph are my Husbands Grt Grandparents I have the names of all Isabella's Barr and Edward Johnstone Conniss children if you are looking at all the family, if you would like them let me know.Which child of Joseph and Isabella's do you come from, this side of the family is proving difficult to find I have an idea that originally they came from Ireland, I keep chipping away and hope I will eventually find them .
At this side of the family there is not a lot of information available Isabella and Edward did not talk much about their family so this adds to the difficulty, you are the first person I have met who could be related to my Husband thing could get exciting but i will keep myself in check until it can be proven .

Hi , hope we are onto the same family . I have a copy of my Isabella`s marriage cert her parents are John ? Joseph Greenwood coal miner (deceased by 1909) and Agnes Murray ( nee Hood) Formally Greenwood My Isabella`s dob is 1977 and I think she was born in Murikirk . I have found some information that John was ? born in Ireland and Agnes was born in Edinburgh not sure about this, the only true information i have is the copy of Isabella`s marriage certificate and I know this is correct because of her Husband Edward Johnston Conniss . Sorry I do have more information to give you I am very confused .

i'm not sure if it is. I know from 1881 census that joseph and isabella had a daughter isabella who was 3 at that time. That would seem to be the isabella from your lineage but then the father and mother doesn't seem right. Could it be that her mother and father were different from who she lived with? Does she have same father and mother on all her birth, marriage and death certificates?

Hi I only have a copy of her Marriage certificate my Isabella was 23 when she married in 1909 that makes her dob 1886 so the Isabella on the 1881 census does not look like it will be her, i found this family and thought it was her but the years are wrong. How many Isabella Barr Greenwoods are there in Scotland ? and I think her Father came from Ireland ? or she could come from one of the other siblings on the census . Sorry not much help .

it might be her although the dates aren't correct. i haven't found any other greenwood's in muirkirk at that time and isabella barr greenwood is quite an unusual name. the father and mother were both born in ireland and brother was david barr greenwood. it might be that they were related in some way. try muirkirk.org. sorry not much to go on!

Hello! Hope you don't mind me throwing my hat into the ring so to speak! I am currently doing a family tree for someone who has a Sarah Greenwood as his forebear. This Sarah Greenwood was born in 1874 in Muirkirk, the daughter of Joseph Greenwood and Isabella Barr - her sister was Isabella Barr Greenwood, who was her bridesmaid at her wedding to Alexander Reid in 1893. Sarah and Isabella were sisters of Thomas, Joseph, William, Mary and David Barr Greenwood. Both Joseph Greenwood and Isabella Barr were born in Ireland. Don't have any more information I'm afraid at this point in time, but if I find out more, will post it.

Hi oh I got really excited when I first read this. This side of the family is proving difficult and it has had me really confused. My Isabella Barr Greenwood dob 1886 ( on her marriage cert ) Father is named as John Greenwood coal miner diseased by 1909 and her Mother Agnes looks like Murry not very clear formally Greenwood . Isabella lived at 12 railway Terrace Murikirk and Married Edward Albert Johnston Conniss . I think I have looked at your Sarah Greenwood but could not make her fit. I also believe my Isabella came from Ireland but have had no luck placing her there . If you find anymore I would be interested in that info . Sorry I am not much help .

Hi there. Your Isabella Barr Greenwood was born on the 2nd of March 1886 at 18 Rames? Row, Muirkirk, the daughter of John Greenwood and Agnes Greenwood m.s. Hood, who were married on the 30th of July 1879 in Kilmarnock. Please see the attached file. I wonder if your Isabella Barr Greenwood is actually named after the Isabella Barr that I am working on, possibly an aunt married to Joseph, John's brother? A theory at the moment!

Someone else looking for this Greenwood family posted on ARMAGH board and I have been able to find out quite a bit about the family and I'm going to move this topic to Armagh as that's where the Greenwoods came from in Ireland (not sure why this was originally posted on ANTRIM board).
