Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone can help me track down Charles Bell Ford BORRON, also known as C.B.F. BORRON, on the 1861 and 1871 censuses?
C.B.F. BORRON was born c. February 1841 in Glasgow.
In 1841 in Scotland living with his parents;
Source Citation: Parish Crawford; ED 9; Page 1; Line 760.
In 1851 at a boarding school in Newcastle;
Source Citation: Class HO107; Piece 2405; Folio 337; Page 14.
Then a 20 year gap.
In 1881 in Newton-le-Willows, Lancs;
Source Citation: Class RG11; Piece 3787; Folio 11; Page 16.
In 1891 still in Newton-le-Willows, Lancs;
Source Citation: Class RG12; Piece 3070; Folio 33; Page 59.
Married in 1897.
In 1901 in Golborne, Lancs;
Source Citation: Class RG13; Piece 3587; Folio 105; Page 45.
In 1911 still living in Golborne, Lancs. C.B.F. BORRON died in Golborne in 1927, aged 86.
C.B.F. BORRON was a Glass Bottle Manufacturer in Newton-le-Willows. I have documentary sources taking his appointment as a glass bottle manufacturer in Newton-le-Willows back to 1865. I’d have thought he’d have to have been in the general area of Newton-le-Willows on the 1871 census but I can’t find him. Also, where he was in 1861 is another mystery. I’ve searched the Scottish, English and Welsh censuses but haven’t found any clues. I’ve found C.B.F. BORRON’s parents in Scotland in 1861 but my man isn’t with them.
Any suggestions anyone?

Not much help but he was in a court case in 1868 at the Liverpool Assizes and it stated he was of Newton le Willows.Also on the Historical Directory site for the same year they have connections with glass manufacturing in Bristol.

I wasn't aware of the 1868 court case so that is an excellent find - thanks.
C.B.F. Borron really is a mystery where the 61 and 71 censuses were concerned. I've now got several sources giving his residence as Newton-le-Willows either just before or just after the 1871 census but where the night of the census is concerned he just seems to vanish.
Still hoping someone will spot something I've missed.

Have you seen the history forum on www.newton-le-willows.com. There's an in depth discussion about Borron on there. Apart from that there are threads on this site about one of Borron's partners, John Little who moved from Glasgow to Newton.

He may have been at boarding school in 1851 in NEWCASTLE-UPON-TYNE, (HO107 piece 2405 folio 337 page 14) -
so far as I know we haven't traced him between then and 1881...
'His father, William Geddes Borron was still running his own company in 1870 in Scotland, and had a couple of residences in Ardrossan.'
Do have a look at 'John Little, bottlemaker, Dumbarton' - Alison

Thanks for your help and suggestions. I've been contributing to the thread on the Newton-le-Willows forum but was hoping a thread on Roots would reach a wider audience and help track down the 61 and 71 censuses (hope this is OK).
I'm hoping someone with a particular expertise in tracking down tricky to find censuses will read this and be able to spot Charles Borron in 61/71 (fingers crossed).

Hi there. I haven't been here for a long time, but have just found this thread again, and may have a little more info re Charles Bell Ford Borron:
According to the 1871 Newton Parish Directory, he was living there:
“BORRON, Chas. Bell Ford, glass bottle maker, Newton” (From Rootsweb.)
And neither of the Johns were.
Glasgow Post Office Directories:
He seems to have left his father’s house in Glasgow in 1871/2 and moved to India St, and appears in the Directories from 1873-5 as a manufacturer of bottles with an address at 41 Ann Street. An agency for the NLW Works is possible.
Re 1861: what did a rather classy gent of 20 with a rich father do in those days?

I bet he wasn’t in Britain. Had his brother gone to Australia yet at this point?

one of witness Muriel Winifred Borron - another was C B F Carson ??
Charles Bell Ford Borron married Muriel Frances Carson in 1897 in Warrington
C B F Carson - C B F Borron .... Charles married in 1897 he would be 56 ...can I suggest you look for C B F Carson ?? in 1861/ 1871 .
could C B F Carson actually be C B F Borron as some type of business name ??
seems a coincidence to have 3 initials the same at a wedding ??

Please, could I know what the documentary sources are for CBF Borron being in Newton by 1865?
I realise there may be a lot more information by now. I've just received a photo of a receipt signed by him in 1864 in Glasgow, so this may pinpoint when he left. I was considering a scenario where he was in Newton by 1863.
