Title: Llangeler Marriage Lookup please - Harries/Hinds (Completed)
Post by: green pig on Sunday 06 June 10 03:40 BST (UK)
Hi,
I would like a lookup please for the marriage of Hannah Harries (b. abt 1800 Llangeler) and David Hinds (b abt 1795 Llangeler).  I think they were married on the 25 March 1819 in Llangeler, Carmarthenshire, Wales, but not definite on that date.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Jo

Thank you very much for that information.  Very much appreciated.  Just a quick question....will this give me the names of the brides and grooms parents or is it just the names of the bride and groom???
Cheers Jo

names of bride & groom and 2 witnesses, and of what parish. No knowing who the witnesses may be, but they could be relatives.

Do you by any chance do birth lookups as well???  I cant find any information on the birth of Hannah Harries (b abt 1800) and David Hinds (b abt 1795) both of Llangeler as far as I know.  I dont know who their parents are so that could  make it too hard.  If not then I will post it as another post.
Cheers Jo

the IGI extracted batch C099481 for Llangeler starts in 1799, so too late for David. There are no Hannahs recorded with father's surname Harries.

There looks to be a family of Hindes in the neighbouring parish of Penboyr and it is not a common name in the area, so I would imagine there is some connection.

Hopefully the following may well be of some use to you (even though it doesn't answer your question):
The following is an extract from the “Hanes Plwyfi Llangeler a Phenboyr” written by Daniel E Jones written 1897 and printed in 1899.   The book is mainly in Welsh but I have translated the following is an extract from Welsh to English for you.

At the start of the Century a lot of the “Goitre” land was taken, along with other lands, and were planted as nurseries by a gentleman called Phillip Hindes, who came to live in this area from Irby in Lincolnshire around 1794.  In 1814 he was joined by his young nephew William Hindes, who lived for many years after this at Goitre Isaf.   The nurseries continued to flourish under William Hindes, and even to this day foreign looking trees are still to be seen here and there between Goitre and St Barnabas Church.  William Hindes sons are William Hindes, Merchant of Felindre, and Robert Hindes, Assistant Surgeon, Kenfig Hill.

In William Hindes’ library two neat bibles are to be seen and on one of them (Bible Printed in Carmarthen by John Ross 1807) the following entry is to be had:

“Philip Hindes son of John & Francis was baptised on the 4th day of November 1763.”   The above is extracted from the Parish Register book of Irby in the County and Diocese of Lincoln by the Rev George Holiwell, Rector of Irby, June the 15th 1795.

On the other Bible (printed by Clarendon Press Oxford) and in William Hindes is own handwriting:

“William Hindes left Thorganby in Lincolnshire on 4th April 1814 and arrived in Velindre in Carmarthenshire, South Wales on the 16th inst.  William Hindes was the son of Valantine and Arabella Hindes, of Thorganby, and was born 29th December 1799 in Lincolnshire”.

I know it doesn't answer your question but I noted that in the 1841 Census there was a William Hindes living at Goitre Isaf, Felindre (and this comes under the Parish of Penboyr), he was aged 40 as was his wife Anne and the children that were with them were as follows:  John 19, Mary 17, Elizabeth 14, Phillip 12 and Arabella 10.    I also noted in 1841 that David Hindes aged 46 and Hannah 41 were living in Blaenllain, Llangeler Parish (for info: there was also a Blaenllain in Penboyr Parish as well) with their children Rachel 21, John 19, William, 17, Margaret 15, Thomas 13, David 11, Howell 8, Mary 6 and James 2.

Also, there is a Will for Phillip Hindes, of Goitre Issa (sic), Pen-boyr, Carmarthenshire.  Gent.   dated 1840  William Hindes, nephew was named in the Will as sole executor.   This can be seen on the National Library of Wales website (under Wills:  St David's and Penboyr parish).

It may be worth you looking to see if William Hindes (b. 1799) to Valantine and Arabella in Thorganby, Lincolnshire had a brother named David who was 5 or 6 years older than him.

It's worth a try maybe.

Best wishes,
Alltcafan  :)

I'm also looking to trace back the parents of David Hinds/Hindes - did you find anything else out after the end of this search?

Hi,

There is a baptism for a Hannah Harris (sic) at Penboyr parish church on 7th December, 1804 daughter of Howel (sic) and Anne Harris.    (Penboyr & Llangeler Parishes are next to each other and having hundreds of ancestors in those two parishes - I do know they did sometimes baptise their babies / children in either)

May be ........ may not be of use to you.

Regards, Alltcafan  :)

Hi !!!

My name is Glenda Albert (nee Hinds), I am a descendant of David Hindes as well... Can anyone find a birth record for him... and who his parents were... He is my great great great great grandfather.

I follow John Hinds line through Howell Hinds, and then from Howell's second marriage through 3 generations of David John Hinds.
