Hi beatrice 57,
What further information do you require?

William the dyer would probably be the son of Peter Wastell and Dorothy Garrett (married 1791 Shoreditch). Peter himself was the son of John Wastell and Susanna Tripcony, (married 1757 St Matthews, Bethnal Green) and John Wastell was the son of another John Wastell, senior, and Ann Mayhew (Married 1730 St Dunstans Stepney).
The location and occupations, such as silk dyer, makes me think French Huguenots. Certainly the family married into Huguenot families (Tripcony), and several Wastells appear in the records of The French Hospital London. You had to be French Huguenot decended to be admitted there. There is some suggestion by other researchers online the name was perhaps at some stage anglicised from the original French Guastell, the singular of the word "gāteau".

Thanks for inf. I also felt that "wastel" was of french form of gateau.

Beatrice, im in the process of tracing all the London wastells (im a desendent of one, tree is on ancestry.com), you are my 7th cousin 1x removed; Tripcony is a cornish name and there are Wastells in Cumbria going back to the 14th C so we have to ba careful assuming they are Huguenouts , though Ann Mayhew is, so this line is from Huguenout decent.
Frederick George Wastell(1897)- Elizabeth Ruffel
James Wastell (1898)- Hannah Lock
Daniel Wastell (1830) Elizabeth Saville
William Wastell (1800) Mary Ann Wilson
Peter Wastell (1772) Dorothy Garrett
John Wastell (1734) Susannah Tripcony
John Wastell (1710) Ann Mayhew
Wastell trial stops there but Ann Mayhew's goes back further, to france
Id be interested to know more about your line

Hi,
Does anyone on here have a tree for the Wastells of Bethnal Green they are willing to share? I am descended from John Wastells marriage to Catherine Crofts. I have John being born in 1831 to Peter and Mary. I believe Peters father was also Peter and his mother Dorothy, but I think there was another Peter Wastell in the area at the same time married to a Mary Ann?
Any clarification would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Col
