Title: Hector and Ada Mathias- Holyhead
Post by: GemMcMan on Monday 28 June 10 17:44 BST (UK)
Hi all,
Hector and Ada Mathias ran a sweet and small toy shop in Holyhead with Hectors mother Elizabeth (lib), we think it was still around in the 1930s and 1940s?
we think the sweet shop was on the main shopping street in holyhead off newry street?
does anybody remember this shop or the family?
anything would be good

Hi Gemma
I am a relative of the Mathias Family and noticed your query while googling ,my Great Grandmother was Margaret Mathias of Water Street ,Holyhead , I am enclosing a photo of GG Grandmother Jane Mathias who lived there at 1911 Census. Please let me know of you have any more information on the Family as Hector's name was mentioned before but he is not one of Jane's children maybe a grandson

I believe that Ada was my Dad's great aunt, my Dad's name was Charles Henry Wilson, known to Ada as Henry Bach (Little Hrenry), Ada has a son who was (I think) involved in shipping, and he moved to Ausralia, his name may have been Doug, Ada moved to Australia to be with him, and eventually died there, her ashes were flown back, and my Dad scattered them in Holyhead.
I remember visiting her in the 1960's and she still had the shop.
I'm assuming it must be the same family
My Dad had a sister called May, and I think their parents or maybe also had a barber shop, or perhaps a chemist shop
