Hi Christine you probably don't remember me, I was in st olafs late 60s as a kid, you looked after me, was a great place.  Childrens homes there are loads, valley gardens childrens home was at 19 valley gardens, think it belongs to the council offices now ,  pitteuchar childrens home in tantallon avenue in glenrothes,  old folks home now, theres many around but they never look like childrens homes just ordinary houses.  if I remember anymore ill post them , ive been in a few, just cant remember half of them.

Hi, I know this thread is an old one... I'm hoping you can help.
I was adopted from birth in 1951 and recently discovered i had a sister who was in care from birth until she died in 1967. I know she stayed at St Olaf's on and off throughout this time.
My sisters name was Kathleen Cotter. She also liveed in Montrose.
I managed to find a news paper detailing Kathleen being gifted a doll from under the Christmas tree by the Lord Provest of Kirkcaldy in 1956.
I'd be very grateful if anyone could share any information about Kathleen.

Thank you
sheila

Hi Sheilcrm welcome to rootschat.

I cannot give you any information about your sister but do you have a copy of her birth and death certificates?

As kirstyfairfull said these are available from Scotlands people. I may be able to help you with the death certificate if you reply to this post.

Dorrie

Hi, thank you so much for your replies.
Yes kirsty, the Kathleen you mention is my sister. I have copies of both her birth and death certificates.
I was just hoping to find someone who knew her, maybe get some insight to her life.
I know she lived in St John's cottage in Montrose when she passed.
I feel so bad, we (her 8 sibling's) didn't know of each other until last year. I really believe life could have been different for her had she know she had brother's and sisters so near by.
We all had the same social worker, a Miss Cuthbert.  Miss Cuthbert signed Kathleen death certificate.  None of us were ever reunited, even though 3 of my siblings were all living in St Olafs at the same time.
Fife social work department have given the family very little information in regards to Kathleen's life.  They couldnt even tell us what they did with her remains.
Thank you again

I am so sorry Sheila what you have told us is very heartbreaking indeed.

One observation if you don't mind about what happened to Kathleen's remains. I think it highly unlikely they would have brought her back to Fife for burial/cremation. She was living in the County of Angus when she passed away so it may be worth contacting them to see if they have a record of what happened to her body.

Good luck,

Dorrie

Angus burial records are at Deceased Online, and if you contact them they will refer you there, so you might as well go direct. http://www.deceasedonline.com
