hi thanks for that, have just looked that up,,,,,,,,,well that stumped me!
what happens next? ???
cant see a marriage for mylchreest/mcgray

thats what illeg means! - I'm slowly working thro what I refer to as "my naughty girls' file" - havn't done that 1807-9 yet - see www.manxnotebook.com under presentments for fornication - remember Manx knew illegs by their father's name - fools all those using the IGI coming from an English background!

hi ,sorry i did not mean to sound daft, what i meant was he did not make an honest woman of her, at a later date.
funnily enough,,,this is the second one i have come across in the last 2 days!
must have been rife!
but you will know that,,if you are doing a file.
food for thought!
thanks a lot,i will have a look at manx notebook now.
anything you can add,i am all ears!!

I think she may have married in 1812 to a james Williams - the natural father might have died - sometimes a reason is shown in the presentments - more often he just has to pay maintenance (split equally between him and the woman as the court reckoned both were responsible) tho sometimes the woman can be found sueing for unpaid maintenance - Elizth doesn't appear to have had any other illeg children - there may be hope in that there was a couple with a son John but he was a year or older so I don't think your ancestor was from this family - but the jobs etc indicate to me no family behind him - illegs quite common - again look up my mini essay on manxnotebook under family history

thank you,you have certainly given me a lot to think about!
