How do you know that John Doggett married Sarah Howard about 1787? Do you know where the marriage may have taken place?

Nigel

John Doggett married Sarah Howard on 13 January at St Mary's, Howe with Little Poringland.  The groom's parish was Shottesham.

The groom's father was William Doggett, born about 1723 and baptised in 1731 at St Andrews, Framlingham Pigot.  He died in 1806 at Hellingham.   The Doggett family was resident in Framlingham Pigot for at least three earlier generations.

Some good research there, Trish.  Are you related or just helping out?

John was indeed baptised on 9 June 1765.  He was the second child of William and Sarah.  Siblings:Mary baptised in 1762: Robert  in 1768, Elizabeth in 1774 and Thomas in 1777.

John's father William, baptised 1723 was the second son of William and Mary.  Siblings: Samuel baptised in 1721, John in 1727, Elizabeth in 1729, Mary in 1730 and Robert in 1734.  All at St Andrews.

John and Sarah had ten children starting with Sarah born in Denton in 1778 and ending with David born in 1806.  I am a direct descendant of David.  John and Sarah started the Costessey dynasty of Doggett's from which most Norfolk rooted Doggetts can trace their family.

As you have spotted, there are many spelling variations that make research difficult.

Hi all,
I'm new to this site, I found your discussion when i carried out a google search. I am currently tracing back my lineage of the Doggett family (Direct descendant of David doggett-1806) and i am at a stale mate when i get to John Doggett 1766. I know his parents were William and Sarah but i am finding it very hard to get the evidence to support this along with getting dates of their own. I am wondering if member suzie.q or the member Doggett could get in touch and maybe guide me with their findings.

Baptisms;
St Andrew, Framlington Pigot;
Parents WM or WILLIAM and MARY
SAMUEL Dogget, 27 Aug 1721
WILLIAM Dogget, 10 Feb 1722/23, buried 1 March 1728/29, Son of William/Mary
MARY Doggett, 11 April 1724
JOHN Dogget, 25 Dec 1727, buried 3 Oct 1728, Son of William/Mary
ELIZ Doggett, 15 Sept 1729, buried 21 Sept 1729, Daug of William/Mary
WILLIAM Doggett, 4 April 1731****
ROBERT Dogget, 25 Aug 1734
(FreeREG)

So from doggetts posting;
John's father William, baptised 1723 was the second son of William and Mary.

This is incorrect as that William died 1728/9
The William 1731 is likely the correct one.

Hi Trish,
Thank you for your help I had a look at our tree yesterday after and it has helped us a lot, allowing us to find material which would have taken an age to find.

Cheers
Matthew
