I would like to find the burial plot of an ancester Christopher WRIGHT. He died Edgmond, Newport & he used to be the Innkeeper at the Lambs Inn, Shrewsbury Rd, Shropshire.
Can anyone tell where the most likely cemetery would be.
Many thanks

There are two churches in Edgmond, the Parish church and a methodist church.

If you want to see the pub go to www.thelambatedgmond.co.uk the pub is still there and very nice by all accounts.

Hi Gillj,
Thanks for the info. Would you be able to tell me the names of the Parish & Methodist churches? On GENUKI there is a list of Transcripts of Monumental Inscriptions for Shropshire. For Newport there is a St. Nicholas. Could this be one of the churches?
Many thanks

Hello Lee,
Can you please tell me what the name of this cemetery is? I wonder if they the Shropshire FHS has a monumental inscription of it?
Would be also interested to hear of your Jones interest in Staffordshire. I also have Jones from the Butt Lane, Audley, Wolstanton areas. I know its a hard name to link up but you never know!

My grandfather William Henry Jones was born in Cannock in 1907, his parents were Thomas Edward Jones originally from Dawley, Shropshire and his mother Matilda Pugh is from Pensnett, Staffs.

Thank you Lee for the info on Newport cemetery.
The surname Jones I am researching dates from 1795, Audley, Staffordshire. Unfortunately, no connection.

Hello Sue All information is to do with St Peter's Church, Edgmond - not the Methodist Church.
1. Christiana W. Full MI in my reply of17/07/06 starts "In loving memory of Christiana". No dates given for her on MI. She was buried on 6th October 1917 aged 28. (From Burial Register)
2. John Thomas W. of Summerhil,l Edgmond Road, NEWPORT died aged 88 and was buried on 1 Jan. 1963 (From burial register)
3. Harry W. of Playdale, Edgmond died aged 83 and was buried on 9 May 1963. (Burial register)
4. Ernest W. was probably born before Christopher and Lavinia came to Edgmond. No further information.
5. Alice Maud W. was born on 18 Nov. 1891 and baptised on 22 Jan. 1892. Marriage not found.
6. MABEL Wright was born 13 Feb. 1893 and baptised on 3 March 1893. On 26 April 1916 she married FREDERICK DIX.
7. Albert W. born and baptised on 18 March 1896 according to the Baptism register. In this one case his father,
Christopher W., is referred to as Farmer rather than Licensed Victualler.
8. SYDNEY born 28 April 1897 and baptised on 22 May 1897. He was buried on 18 July 1897 aged 10 weeks.
Keith - My father was born in Co Sligo.

Addendum to 7. above
Abert W. aged 84was cremated at Shrewsbury on 8 Jan. 1981. His address was given as Tunstall Hall, Market Drayton. His ashes were buried in Edgmond church yard.
