Title: Frome Road House (workhouse) Bath
Post by: HRowland on Friday 29 October 10 16:21 BST (UK)
Hi not sure if anyone can help but my grandmother was living at Frome Road House, Bath in 1934 when she got married.  This was in fact a workhouse and I wondered if anyone has a list of the inmates at the workhouse in 1934.  I also believe her first born could have been with her but not sure.  Any help would be much appreciated.  Thanks.  Hayley

Just to say that Workhouses legally ceased to exist on Monday 31st March 1930, they were then called Public Assistance Institutions.

Bath Union Workhouse, which is at Odd Down, re emerged as St Martins Hospital.

I do have images of Bath Union Workhouse Baptisms from 1846 to 1963.

Yes after the Workhouse changed to St Martins Baptisms were performed in the Chapel until '63 sometimes Drs or Nurses are recorded as celebrants. Some entries are quite surprising.

If you can give me your Grandmothers name I will see if there is a Baptism to of a child to her name

Hi, I have just found your post about the baptisms in the workhouse.  I have two sisters who had 3 children in there and wondered if they are online now or if you could kindly look for me please?  Rosina Savery had Stanley May 1913, Phyllis Sept 1918 and her sister Olive Savery had Lavinia in 1919.
Many thanks, Karen
