I there
After two years stumbling around at home and mainly on SP website I have realised there aren't death records for yetholm parish and was wondering if anyone might be able to help.
I am looking to locate any inscriptions, if they exist, for the following couple in yetholm.
John Cockburn, Christian (Annie) Bennet.
They both died pre-1841 but not long before i suspect. He was a blacksmith at primsidemill, yetholm parish. They had a number of children born there. He was involved with the local church.
Any detail of their death would be great, may help me to locate their births.
Cheers all

Hi David,
I am researching same line and here is what I have. I do not have a death record for Christian (nee Bennet) but I believe she died between 1 May 1815 and 1820. I believe she was born 31 May 1775 at Morebattle, Rox and her father was Thomas Bennet. I have been unable to find the marriage date of John and Christian but it was probably about 1799 or 1800. I believe that after her death John married Frances (Fanny) Davidson on 28 Jul 1820 at Yetholm. She was the daughter of James Davidson and Jean Little. Here are the children I have found from both marriages, all born at Yetholm.
Jean, born 12 Oct 1800
Adam, born 25 Dec 1802
Margaret, born 6 Jan 1805
Alison, born 1 Jan 1807
Thomas, born 1 Jan 1809
John, bap. 17 Sep 1811
Andrew, bap. 21 Sep 1813
Peter, bap. 1 May 1815
Children of marriage to Frances Davidson
James, born 21 Sep 1821
William, born 29 Jan 1823 (emigrated to Canada in 1868 with family and half nephew William) He died 6 Sep 1902, York County, Ontario
George, bap. 20 Aug 1825 (emigrated to Canada)
Robert, born 14 Sep 1827
Francis, born 14 Feb 1830
I have traced the Cockburn line back to about 1620 and I have the descendants of William born 29 Jan 1823, above.

There are two MIs at Yetholm that might be of interest to you:
#76 (apparently a partially obliterated stone) Bottom of slope next to wall:
______Cockburn_____________Adam Cockburn who died 15.11.1866 age 63 [presumably the Adam b. 1803 mentioned above.)
#77 In loving memory of Ann Dick wife of John Cockburn who died at Primside Mill 5.11.1894, aged 53; and John Cockburn who died at Primside Mill 9.1.1911 age 69, also his son Adam Cockburn beloved husband of Christina Tully died at Primside Mill 29.1.26 age 58, also Christina Tully died at Primside Mill 30.4.1933 age 64.
There are a few Bennets in the index but none with the first name that you mentioned.

Thanks for the info Ian. My location is near you, in Kingston.

Cheers Gary and Ian for that.
I saw the frances davidson and john cockburn names but didn't know it was the same john. I have death certs for adam, andrew and peter cockburn from the first marriage which may be of use to you, i only gathered them in the hope of tracing johns birth and christian's birth.
My direct line is through john and christians first daughter jane cockburn who moved to ancrum and a few of her brothers lived there with her for some time. If you want i can email you the info i have rather than babbling on!
Cheers again
