I keep seeing references to this site and the great online resources it has. I have been trying to access it for a few weeks now but getting "can't find server" message. Does anyone know if they are no more, or what the problem might be?
Grateful for any info.

an internet seasrch for scotsfind.org brings up various hits for other sites which mention the scotsfind.org site, but no links to the site itself, so it looks as if it has gone offline.

Thanks Bob. It must have happened quite recently. Too bad, because it seemed to have an awful lot of info and databases that would be helpful.

You can find information about scotsfind.org on Whois. Apparently it is out of Vancouver, BC, Canada and hasn't been updated since 2009 (15 months). This is not a positive indicator.

A cached version of the site is available on the Internet Archive at http://web.archive.org/web/20080602101740/http://www.scotsfind.org/

That's great news Chris :) It was/is a great site for Edinburgh records. Do you happen to know what has happened with the site/owners?

I'm afraid not...!

www.scotsfind.org seems to have disappeared.
I have used it a lot over the years and was disappointed to be told it "cannot be found" when I tried to access it on various occasions recently.
Does anyone know what has happened to it?
I'm hoping it is just being upgraded or something and will be back soon.

This has been the subject of other posts recently as you can see above (now merged with this thread). We've still not found out what happened to it.

Thanks Nell.
Chris thanks for that link.

I too tried to find ScotsFind and while I was able to open the archived version, I wasn’t able to open any of the databases
I did, however, find two important ones at another site:
Edinburgh, Scotland Marriage Register, 1595 - 1800. A register of the marriages in Edinburgh during the periods above.
http://robertson-gorrie.com/documents/marriages.pdf 7.44 MB
Volume for 1701 - 1750 has not been merged with the other two volumes, but is present as a separate database and is included in this folder.
Updated: 27 Sep 2004; Volume for 1701 - 1750 updated: 19 Oct 2004

It is a pity that the main Scotsfind.org site no longer seems to be available. It is a bit of a hit and miss affair with the wayback service on http://web.archive.org/web/20080602101740/http://www.scotsfind.org/ Sometimes, I get in no problem, other times, like you say, you get to the main index but cannot access the datafiles. You also get the 'failed connection' message other times, which doesn't let you access anything at all.
Some of these databases are available, like you have found, separately. Apart from the ones you mention, you can also access the St Cuthbert's Churchyard - Monumental Inscriptions from here http://waeve.co.uk/genealogy/sourcefiles/St.Cuthbert%27s_Cemetry.pdf

I also tried accessing the files via www.archive.org and had no luck - the files wouldn't open, but I found I could access them through http://www.dustydocs.com/county/2/scotland/167/midlothian.html. Go figure. :)
